First time fruiting annona diversifolia in Anaheim, CA
« on: September 02, 2024, 08:18:39 PM »
For the longest time I didn't think it was possible. I was expecting the fruit to drop off a while ago, but its been nearly a month and a half and the largest one didn't drop off.

Very exciting, congrats! Hopefully it makes it to maturity all right.

How old is the tree? What variety is this?

Might I ask, what is the coldest temperature you get?

Not quite sure what the variety is 😅. I got it 5 years ago from a seller as a kid. Hopefully I'll be able to identify it once it cracks open.

Coldest temps I get are in the 30s to 35s. The tree definitely suffers, but it always bounces back come spring. Its definitely a trooper.

I've bought a bunch of ilama seeds and I get to 30F. You give me hope that they'll do well. Cheers.

I would still bring them inside while their small  ;D. My tree can tolerate it, but some of the branches die off. I had a rollinia that was the same, it was big. the branches died off during winter yet it kicked up the summer that came and grew twice in size compared to last year. But definitely experiment with one of the seedling to see what it could take. Who knows? Maybe you got your seeds form a region that sees cold like misiones which saw 30 degree weather atleast 5 times in the past, allowing for breeding of cold tolerance.

They had an identity crisis so A. macroprophyllata is their name. I have a few but they prefer a subtropical rather than a tropical climate with under 2000mm per year so I'm not ideal
