Citrus General Discussion / Re: My first Kishu mandarin harvest
« on: April 20, 2024, 04:22:38 PM »
Do not confuse with Kishu mikan of Chinese origin.
There is no Kishu-mikan of Chinese origin. Kishu varieties are Japanese. China has its own varieties belonging to the same species Citrus kinokuni (according to the classification of Tanaka). The most famous is the ancient variety Nanfengmiju. There are also varieties of Donghuamiju, Huanglingmiao, Yuanyangju and probably others that I don't know about. Japanese varieties of Kishu are descended from Chinese varieties.

Thanks. The Cocktail variety is hybrid and therefore I wonder what kind of seeds it has, monoembryonic, like pomelo, or polyembryonic.

Has anyone sowed the seeds of Cocktail Grapefruit? How many seedlings do they produce, one at a time or several?

Hello, Sunmicroman. Thank you for this information. If you have such frosts once a decade, then I think this is the border of 8a and 7b.

Where do you buy the "silica gel stones" ?
Some medicines (tablets) are sold in convenient boxes with silica gel in the lid.

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: Citrus daoxianensis (Daoxian wild mandarin)
« on: February 23, 2024, 11:19:04 AM »
The publication itself says Daoxian wild is the common name for Citrus daoxianensis. Is your suspicion that the publication is wrong to think Daoxian wild refers to Citrus daoxianensis? Or that the nurseries selling Daoxian wild are incorrectly using this name?
I remember that there were two species of C. reticulata and C. daoxianensis, and they were both called "Daoxian wild". And this confusion was even in scientific articles. To answer you thoroughly, I will need to find and re-read these articles again. Unfortunately, there is no time at all now, I haven't even visited the forum here for a week... I will try to answer in more detail and with links later.

As far as I remember, there is confusion with Citrus reticulata "Daoxian wild" and Citrus daoxianensis. Do not confuse them.

Beautiful colors, unusual for citruses.

I mean, is it always true that the more pronounced the deciduous, the better the hardiness, or are there exceptions?

Kumin, Do you have deciduous forms whose winter hardiness is lower than that of Bishop or other evergreen forms?

Citrus General Discussion / Bonsai from kumquat on YouTube
« on: January 24, 2024, 02:23:31 PM »
I came across such videos. Here is the first video, and a year later the second video. It says it's Meiwa, but I think it's hindsii. The second video did not leave me indifferent, I feel sorry for the plants.

14
Another advantage of deciduous is that trifoliata immediately sends synthesized carbohydrates to the trunk and roots, while the rest of the citruses store them in the leaves.

If you want to share information, why not share the title of the article?🤔

Till, Ilya, Mikkel, thank you for sharing this information with us.

@BorisR mentioned having a similar document as well.
Here is a link to a page with data that I have collected on apomixis and polyembryonia in citruses: http://f0754747.xsph.ru/doku.php?id=ru:miscellanea:apomixis

The site is hosted for free, does not have an https certificate and a beautiful domain name, so it may be difficult to get to it from some browsers.

The page is in Russian, but I think it's not a problem with modern technology.

Ilya, can I ask a question a little off topic?
In the above video and in another video from the same channel, they try Shiva-mikan mandarin. It is orange in color and is described as delicious as a Mediterranean mandarin. They have it withstands frosts less than satsuma.
On the other hand, according to the description from Soviet sources, it is a small yellow mandarin with a mediocre taste, which is hardly than satsuma. Zorin used it for crossing with satsuma to get a more hardy variety.
Do you think it could be the wrong variety?

Did CCCP send me the wrong cutting?
It seems that way. According to your description, it resembles a Meyer lemon.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Which rootstock do i have
« on: January 01, 2024, 11:37:09 PM »
Hello, eggeto!
If the plant is grown in ADAVO, then the rootstock is probably citrumelo. If the nursery is Oscar Tintori, then the rootstock may be "Volkameriana". In the "Citrina" nursery, FD is usually used. But this is all not accurate. Can you take a picture of the trunk of the plant together with the transition of the rootstock into the graft? Did the plant have a tag?
Happy New Year to all!

In my opinion, this theme was already raised on some forum a few years ago, and someone was going to make a chimera. I think it was Sylvain from the French forum, but I'm not sure. I wonder how things went there?

A couple planted about 250 yuzu seeds in France in a field.
They selected the more cold résistant years after years.
A few are now famous : n° 1, 3 and 30...
Hi, Zagara!
At first I wanted to object, to say that Sebastian "Alias" did it. But then I watched the video and realized that it was about Sebastian and Bernard. Thanks for the video, it's very interesting.

I noticed when I was juicing the FD fruits to get the seeds out, the juice has some strong sticky thing in it.
This is the famous poncirus resin, which hardy-hybridizers are trying to get rid of in addition to bitterness and smell. Some ponciruses have more of it, some have less.

25
When the juice was diluted and sweetened ...
Is the taste completely sour or is sweetness present?
