Bacon Avocados

I have a ton of these, cant eat em all.  2$ each for big fruit plus postage.  They make good rootstock seeds also.  Been using them for rootstocks in my orchard and they do great.

Bacons are ok.  I prefer fuertes over bacon and bacon over zutano but i top worked fuerte because it doesnt fruit reliably.  The bacon pumps out hundres every year but yeah its probably gonna get top worked to something better.  We already are eating hass and skipped bacons pretty much.  And zutanos I stripped a month ago and used them all for seeds and composted the fruit.

Guys for shipping I can use a usps flat rate box or use UPS ground and do whatever size you want. 

If you buy 10+ fruit I will make them 1.5$ each.

Some people like a tommy atkins because they never had a good mango.
I am sure you have had good avocado so I don’t know what your not bad rating is based on comparitively. I can’t think of a single characteristic that makes this one worth growing , compared to other options. Sometimes fruits can taste different in when grown in different parts of the world though.
Taste is subjective but oil content/ seed to flesh/ and how long before it brown and nasty we can come up with a baseline.

Brad, just plant more mango’s if those go good for you! Goddamn that is going to be $15 a fruit CA direct in the couple years till they are fruiting . They are less thirsty than Avo too yeah!?

Ehh I only have one bacon tree and it grows harder and fruits harder than any other tree and every year and stays super green and they taste ok.  You probably never had a good ripe one.  Although I really am not a huge fan, they can be ok.  We rated them against every type of high end avocado in May 2021 and over 20 people attended the tasting and rated every avocado and bacon was in the top half above many of the hyped up commercial garbage that UC system has been pushing.  They averaged a higher rating with over 20 people than a whole lot of other types and were a surprise high rated fruit that day.

And they make excellent rootstock and have excellent heat and cold tolerance.

Wow! Awesome! That's something to get excited about.  I see you added Fujikawa to the mix.  Those boxes will be Avocado Bliss!

Where you rate it is important because you are an avocado grower and  have tried a lot of kinds at all levels of ripeness through the years.
I have had a lot of CA and Hawaii Avocado's and I am a picky connoisseur that turns my nose up at any store bought Avocado or any inferior variety.
I have had Bacon's from different grafted tree's in CA. Your right, it grows hardest, looks greenest and yields a ton of bombers.
it's just side by side to all of these killer varieties, I'd rather just wait for any other kind. But I tend to have strong opinions and the Avocado, as a human needing and looking for fatty savory fruits , is the holy grail of fatty fruits that is greatly desired as much as possible.
your the only person I know CA or FL that is trialing all these Hawaiian kind and huge thanks for that and figuring which one's , like Sharwil, will go good in So Cal. I haven't had any Pinkerton in a year or two so I'll be begging you sell me some in a couple months here, if y'all don't just save all those for your head.

I like pinkertons too but they do have some issues and inconsistency.  Some times its almost the best thing ever.  Other times it has uneven ripening and thry often take 3+ weeks to properly soften so the noobs loose patience and cut it early and waste it.  I have a bunch of those this year though.  The pinketon tree grows like crap though and the ripening issue is annoying so I will not grow more of those.  I have 2 trees and its more than enough.  I have been top working most of my losers with sharwil.  They are pretty amazing tasting.  The trees are not great but fruit is worth the junk tree. 

Bacon, yeah, I didnt rate it very high.  Im not a huge fan.  But thry are ok if left on there a while and its what you have. 

Anyway, I will have the good ones for sale soon.  Fujikawa will also be in those mix boxes which is a nice big dense guatemalan one that makes good guac and ripens in spring.

I still want to get you this Hawaiian scion of, “Otah” I think it is to trial.
My other top Hawaiian next to sharwil, but totally different.
Fall ripening in Hawaii and big circular delicious bombers. Probably coincides with our Reed season a bit.

For those inexperienced with tasting many varieties this information is invaluable. Thanks for sharing. The whole Bacon conundrum always perplexes me and I can never decide if it's worth it. So many people have a hard stance on it one way or another.

I had one from hawaii called "Ota" that was supposed to be a round guatemalan.  It was real lanky tree and didnt flower so I chainsawed it down.  I had high hopes for thwt one but it just wasnt doing anything good here.
