Looking to buy fresh “japanese raisin tree fruit”
« on: October 05, 2022, 11:14:36 PM »
Really curious to try this, as I enjoy dried figs and dates in my morning oatmeal and on their own which I hear it’s similar?

If anyone is selling please reach out.

Thanks
Joe

Just fruits and exotics sells the tree for these. Otherwise unfortunately haven't heard of anyone selling the actual fruits.
Trying to grow it all!

Get at @exoticfruitfarm (Erika) on Instagram i was able to buy some Japanese raisin fruit plus Silas woods sapodillas , great packaging. I liked the Japanese raisin too and hoping I can germinate these seeds. Thing about them is you gotta eat them shriveled up and dried out looking then they are sweet with pear raisin flavor, when fresh looking not sweet and kinda astringent.

It's cool you found some. I thought about buying a tree at that nursery but haven't yet. I'd trade you something for a few seeds. Is this species dioecious?

Nice! This is one of those rare "fruits" you don't hear much about. Its actually the swolen stem that gets eaten, isn't it?

I had a tree. It grew well, but gave it to a friend who lives further north, as think it needs some chill hours. Will ask if its still around.

Mine produces here in California and I also have an airlayer on it with roots. They are vigorous growers.

What would you want for an airlayer?

Honestly unsure how to germinate these seeds and if they are viable, the seeds are surprisingly tiny and look like the seeds in red pepper flake seasoning size wise. If I get any seeds to germinate I’ll circle back.

Don't think they (seeds) care.  When we used to get rain and damp soli, seeds germinated on their own.
