bovine421, I have favorites in all flavor profiles (except the one Alex describes as Indian-Alphonso, yuck). For the Indian-West Indian, my favorite is probably Ice Cream, but it's not productive here. While Classic is a top flavor profile for me, it's probably second to Indochinese at this point. But everything changes, including our collections . . . I hear you about culling the herd due to time/energy/resource limitations

Sent you a pm, onur

My u in Neelum is a real live u--I just changed the font size.

5
Ps, I tried the editing after posting trick too, but it didn't work for me either

6
roblack, is that Neelam with an a or Neelam with a u? They're hard to tell apart

7
I'm stuck with the Neelam spelling too, johnb51

On that list I've only had Keitt and Neelam. Two different flavor profiles. Is there a flavor profile you're looking for? Of the two, I prefer Neelam, but what difference does that make? You have Neelam in your signature--do you already have a tree? Mine was great and productive but got hit hard by the freezes and hurricane, but it is trying to make a comeback. I hope it does, as I really like the fruit. Let us know what you decide!

Too bad you couldn't have a Mammee Apple, RS! What did you think of Noni?

I *think* I've seen pollinators on my Sugar Loaf and Pickering blooms. I'll pay better attention. I did catch these love bugs in the act on my Madame Francis bloom. The tree is new to me in a seven-gallon pot, and it will be hard to not let it hold onto at least one fruit . . .

johnb51, there's been a bit of damage, including some manufactured homes being completely destroyed (still other manufactured homes that already went through Hurricane Charley have minimal damage from Ian) . Most non-metal roofs seem to have damage around this area. A lot of trees damaged or downed. But heading east/northeast on US 17, Arcadia had some serious flooding post-hurricane, so even if the winds don't get ya, something else might.

I live near where Calusa is suggesting, and while I agree the area is nice, we had freezes last year and frost this year, so covering for cold may be necessary if you settle here. Just the same, I love it here.

Thanks, Kaz! I've successfully cleft grafted mangos three times, with many more failures both with cleft and veneer grafts. If cleft grafting works and now is a good time of year to graft, I am definitely interested and appreciate your generosity! Thank you!

What about Bael Fruit? Speaking of which, do these look like Bael Fruit? (I planted a bunch of different seeds from Fruit&Spice Park and any labels were dispersed by Ian.)

More frost last night--I think the lows went down to 36. Definitely more frost last night than the night before. While last January's experience makes me question how effective frost cloth is against freezing temps, it definitely seems to have helped protect against frost damage from the last couple nights. Freshly uncovered blooms:

Supposedly only went down to 37 or 36, but there's patchy frost. Hopefully the frost cloth was enough to protect the buds and blooms. We're supposed to get patchy frost again tomorrow morning. Galatians522, did you mean 3am to 9am?

21
NOAA says 34F (originally included patchy frost😳 but not in latest updates), weather dot com says 35 for the low, and AccuWeather says 36. Hoping AccuWeather is the most accurate.

Went ahead and covered a lot of inground stuff and brought in a bunch of container plants. Some stuff will just have to do their best, though.

My two inground Soursops  also defoliated after the Dec cold spell. Not holding out hope for them.

Why does it always have to be so damn windy when I have to cover stuff with frostcloth?!

Sugarloaf, a 7-gal containerized Madame Francis, and one of my Pickerings are flowering. I'm hoping the buds poking out on a lot of my seedling trees are going to turn into panicles. I am afraid of frost Sunday morning and hope this is the last drop into the 30s this season.

pagnr, have you ever read Lord of the Flies? How did you open the coconuts? How would one open coconuts without manmade tools? Thanks!

Yeah, Okvid, what about that island scenario, huh?!

(You've got him on the ropes now, Epiphyte! I thought you were gonna wait a little bit longer before pulling out the ol' "deserted, tropical island with only coconut trees" angle, but you know what you're doing here! I bet everyone on this forum is ready to fall into line now!)

tru, what's with you? Epiphyte has done a bang up job convincing everyone here we need to switch to a donation system. Heck, ever since Epiphyte wrote: "a donation system, on the other hand, would be like public tug of war.  the harder you pulled for canarium, the more curious i'd be about it," I've been at the ready to donate. I just don't know who to send my hard-earned money to to show my love? If his embedded links (ones that make our occasional spammers weep with envy) and name dropping haven't convinced you, I'm afraid nothing will.

Epiphyte, ignore the haters. Keep up the good fight. One day all will see and understand. (I'll admit, I thought this thread was going to die a couple days ago. You saved the day by presenting a theoretical charge that Okvid was trying to be your slave master. Brilliant move that allowed you to pontificate further!) Continue trying to enlighten the nonbelievers! KEEP THIS THREAD ALIVE!!!
