Yes, gather the pollen from a flower that had opened (with anthers) and apply to one that was just opening or had to be pried open.
As you read the different posts it was suggested that you may need to do this to get pollen on stigma that is moist and sticky.,  My takeaway from the discussion at the time was that if you were in a location where the humidity is not very high, your timing has to be just right (at night was what Har suggested) and you may need to use fresh and still viable pollen (or stored) on a flower in the female stage that was still receptive, and it is unlikely to be the one you took the pollen from.

I wasn't suggesting the bag trick for pollination just to answer OP's first question which was if his flowers had pollen which I assume he would confirm.

Pollenating has not been easy for me either, I got some good recommendations some time ago and I will try to find and add the link to the post.

The reason I asked was on my trees sometimes when the flower has fully opened it is often too late and the insects or wind has already liberated the pollen.  If you get the seed just right though before it is fully opened with perhaps only or two petals dropped, you will get pollen.

See these videos, they may show something that works for you.  My suggested experiment of bagging in poly bag is still a surefire way of confirming if you have pollen that is blown away or harvested before you checked.

In your dooryard you can get away with closer spacing than you would do in a commercial venture.  The spacing you have is what you will use.  I have some trees within 10 feet of each other, not great but good enough if I don't mind reduced fruiting from parts of some trees.  The alternative is the space well but graft 2 or 3 varieties on each tree.  If you can get 4 or 5 varieties from 2 or 3 trees, you may be happy enough spacing them on 20 to 25 feet centers

Are you familiar with Soursop flowers and this is different?
At what stage of flower opening did you check for pollen?
to test encase an unopened flower in a poly bag and see what you get when the flower opens.  If any pollen is in the bag your question is answered.

Mulch is good and for much more than weed control but that was an aside.

You only need to grow two, at least one will be a clone, possibly both.
Put them in the same hole if you must and chop one of them down if the fruit is bad or both produce identical fruit.
Plant them a foot or two apart if you don't want them in the same hole.

If you are interested, in addition to El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), there are other teleconnections worth reading about.

Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO) and Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) are two that I will suggest and they have been considered in water management decisions in Florida for the last couple of decades.

I think I have a couple of fruits but I am not sure and here is why.

I planted one in an area where I had some control over its growth and it is OK.  I placed a second against a tall pine tree and placed another vine, also in a pot there as well. Both loved it, jumped on the tree and reached for the sky.  Now there are at least 4 or more fruits way high up the tree (two have already dropped to the ground but well past being edible)  The reason it is a maybe is I don't know which of the vines made the fruit.  I never saw the flower either. 

Not saying this for the competition but if anyone has a picture of the fruit, I will like to see it and compare to the drops.  I hope the one I planted in a nice spot fruits soon.  The fruit will be well within reach by hand or with a short picker.

By the way, I intend to leave the two under the pine tree but plan on chopping then down to about 10 feet tall in the spring once it gets wet.  I will try to train then onto a low branch on the tree in the hope that if they fruit again I can reach them.

May add a ew pictures when I am back in town.

From what I understand they are almost impossible to sprout from seed. That's why most people look for grafted seeds. They also aren't true to seed either  like most annona fruit.
Difficult but not impossible.
There are several posts on sprouting Ilama, some include pictures and reports of outcome using different methods.

Not necessarily...  both make polyembryonic seeds (certainly PPK, sometimes Sein Ta Lone/Guava) in which case, a seedling (all but one of seedlings sprouted from the seed) could be a true clone, "the real deal".

Let it be for now.
If it grows into a full flower and does not drop off by itself, then wait.  If it sets fruit, break it off after the fruit is marble size.
The theory is, if you break it off early, it might put energy into trying to flower again.  If you however let it progress and it falls off by itself, then all is well.  If it sets fruit, waiting a little increases your chances that when it is broken off, the next flush will be vegetative since you would be past the period of cold or drought stress.

I think it is PM after all.
I was out in the yard this morning and it was clear that I have a bad case of PM on a couple of trees.

It is too late for the current bloom but I will start a spray regimen in the hope that I get one more flowering this season and they survive.

Poor timing for some cold snaps and absolutely no flies.  Waiting for one last flowering and I am bringing the raw fish basket to invite some flies.


I do have a few fruits starting here and there but not even close to what should be expected with the bloom.
