Only one mango tree. You have space for only one mango and it can't
be a cocktail tree. What's it gonna be?

I watched Richard Campbell's presentation at Fairchild this year about which mango to pick if you only had room for one. His number one pick was Angie. I like Angie, really good mango overall.

He also did NOT like coconut cream, very low productivity. He said Nam Doc Mai was on his watch list for diseases and he doesn't recommend people plant it now.

I am about to bring the wrath of all the mango snobs down upon me, but I would go with...

Nam Doc Mai

One tree but fruit can be used at all stages of development for different purposes. Don't get me wrong, I like complex mangos. But if I can only have one, I'm going with the one that can be used green like an apple but still tastes good ripe. It is the Swiss Army Knife of mangos. Yes, there are better green mangos and mangoes that are better ripe, but if I only get one I am going with the one that does everything reasonably well.

As a side note, it is important to me to have a mango that makes good green mango salad as this is one of my family's favorite dishes. I am sad to hear that Richard Campbell says that it is having disease issues. We have never had any that sulfur could not fix.

I was hoping more people would respond???
If you were going to be marooned on a deserted island and only have room for one mango tree
which one would it be?

Yikes, I assumed you meant one tree where I'm at now--I didn't realize the tree would be going on a deserted island and that I'd be marooned there. I'd hope (and am guessing) it's a tropical island and I think coconut palms would be beneficial. They'd seem to be a constant source of nourishment.

There was a recent Durian/Mango thread where people noted there were mangos growing in beach conditions. I guess I'd have to go with one of those if I wanted fruit? Unless anyone here has trialed a Pickering, Thom Pai Khan, or Kathy on a deserted island?

You didn't note which one *you'd* choose . . .

Now you see people are thinking what would even grow there!  Just stick with "only one."

Don't mean to hijack this thread but would you be able to tell more about your NDM.  I grow NDM#4 and NDM Mun.  They both seem pretty susceptible in my yard to powdery mildew, blooms and leaves, #4 especially. I mean it's July, and just flush leaf that is attacked again. I'll probably will add NDM sia tong some time in the future.  Hoping along the way one is more disease resistant.  But #4, is extremely sour green not one u would describe as green apple.  Mun is suppose to enjoyable green but I haven't had fruit yet.  But originally, there was a strain before #4 took over, that was eaten green also.  However, this strain seems to be out of favor now but I would definitely like to find.

Think I heard Alex in an interview say if he could only pick one it would be Pickering. That really says something. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong but I think he said Cac would be a close 2nd. Both solid mangos

Yes, I agree, solid choices.  Pickering for manageability, productivity, freedom from disease, and decent flavor.  Cac for complexity and richness of flavor.
