Is butterscotch sapodilla self-pollinating?
« on: June 20, 2023, 10:59:09 PM »
Can anyone that personally owns a butterscotch sapodilla confirm that it is definitely self pollinating? Have been trying to self pollinate for weeks with a paintbrush and pinch/roll technique on fresh flowers, with no success. I see pollen on the brush but the fruit doesn’t seem to set. Tree is several years old with a decently thick trunk and branches - see below.

Any other suggestions on how to get this sap to set some fruit for me?

Can anyone confirm this please? Really hoping I have not been wasting my time hand pollinating. Tree is loaded with flowers but just won’t set fruit.

I cant get it to hold fruit even with my help and multiple sapodillas close by.

Hopefully this is something it grows out of.

JR561, is your tree small? Not sure what size these saps need to be before they can hold fruit. I was told that mine should technically be able to bear by now.

A lot of people squeeze/pinch the blooms and have good luck getting pollination.  Google it to get more info.  Hopefully it helps.

Mine is alone on my block but there is one on block over so hard to say. Set fruit already after a year. Very dwarf growth habit.

Its getting bigger. It was a 15 gallon planted a year and half ago.

Probably like Hasya sapodilla tree needs size to get good crops.
