Banana cultivar availability . . . . ?

Just was looking for a couple banana cultivars on Going Bananas of Homestead's website and noticed that they no longer do any mailouts of product.  Apparently they are only cash & carry now.

So where should one look for a decent selection of banana cultivars here in Florida that do ship?  Or is it mostly a scatter-shot effort?

That is really disappointing to hear. They had an excellent selection. Apparently, I got my Raja Puri from them just in time. I don't know of any other place that could match their inventory and will ship. It will probably take a little more effort to find what we want now. I have typically had good success trading with other forum members, for what it is worth.

Hi Paul, that is sad that they don’t ship anymore. There were a great resource. I ship pups. I grow about 15 different varieties. Most are $25 each plus shipping. You can pm me if interested.

who or where in Plant City or Pinellas County your reply suggests?

I'm also struggling to find the last few Banana varieties on my wish list here. I wouldn't mind making the drive to SoFL but I still can't find anyone with them or they won't hold them and I'm not thrilled of the prospect of driving 3.5 hours only to not be able to get what I came for

Its a little more leg work but if you are getting into bananas that is the best place I've found to learn

MadFarm, I've been looking for 'Golden Aromatic' which was mentioned in Wm. Lessard's classic Banana book (wherein he describes that cultivar as having 'so strong an aroma that you can smell it over the next mountain'), and also woud like to find 'Mysore.' 

Also prefer any banana cultivars which are on the shorter side, like eight feet or shorter.

Have you tried Tampa Tropical Asian Nursery?  That place is pretty amazing, they may have what you want.

If you're looking for a wide variety of bananas, hit up Jenes Tropicals in St. Pete.
Last time I was there, they had over 10 varieties.

I love Tampa Tropical Asian Nursery but last I was there their Banana selection was pretty much the usual namwah, grand nain, etc and double mahoi.

I'll have to check out Jenes. I'm looking for a Kru and I know one place online but I was hoping to find one for less than $200 and also pick up a few others but it seems the closer I get to the last few varieties the harder it is to one stop shop, the Dwarf cuban red and pisang raja should be easier to source but I haven't been looking as hard as I was finishing my mango shopping.
