Cuban guava variety
« on: October 10, 2023, 09:59:47 AM »
I’m looking for an ID on a guava variety from western Cuba. They were pink, large, very sweet and very fragrant. Very distinct pear shape, not round. The name given is “guayaba del Peru.” Since coming to the states my mom says she’s never seen one that even resembles it let alone compares to it. I found very little literature online about it but maybe someone here is growing it and can sell me some seeds or point me in the right direction.

Oops I should’ve specified. Pink/red on the inside. Green/yellow on the outside. Also very large. I don’t think there’s any psidiums that get over a pound besides regular guava. Thinking it’s a named cultivar.

I think a lot of our Cuban fruit names are regional or family names and not necessarily cultivars that are propagated on any large scale outside of private growers.
