Holy Grail Varieties

(1/12) > >>

Greater Good:
In your opinion, which varieties are the holy grail selections for the Florida Mango collector?

I think Zill 40-26 (Creamsicle) deserves consideration.

Coconut Cream:
A true Holy Grail mango variety has to score 5 stars in every category:

* Disease resistant
* Productive
* Precocious
* Superior Flavor
* Superior Texture
* Medium to large fruit size
* Compact tree
* Fruit ripens evenly
* Extended harvest season, multiple crops, fruit doesn't all ripen simultaneously
Does such a mango variety with truly superior flavor exist yet?

brian:
Is precocity actually important?  Is it common to grow mangos from seed as opposed to grafting?

Sorry for my ignorance on this.  I guess I have always assumed even though mangos come true from seed that grafting would be preferred for growers, but I could be very wrong on this.  Seedlings more hurricane resistant? :)

It's better to get your mangoes quickly after you plant the tree, right? Some grafted varieties take years longer to bear fruit than others.

And a very good shelf life.
