Jabba,

If youre not already in the FB groups "North American Fruit Explorers - NAFEX" and "North American Scion Exchange", I suggest joining. Theres tons of posts throughout the week but not long ago saw some red-fleshed scions for sale, as well as other rare and misc. varities. Probably plenty more groups to joing from there. Best of luck.

Thanks for the reminder about that group, lots of people with good varieties! Going to have to offer some scions here once we get going.

Woohooo, Lance is back on TFF!
Glad you were able to take a much a needed break/vacation.

While many parts of the country are still under freeze warning, it's already feeling like late spring in our neck of the wood.
Our spring tends to be shorter than some other places; Next thing you know, summer will be just around the corner.

For all you New Yorkers and Michigan folks who are complaining about freezing weather, please help bring some of that cold down here (just a little bit now, not too much lol)...Our lettuce, cabbage, and arugula are already beginning to bolt and the pea plants are not liking this warmth. I'm already missing the cool season greens. We need more cool fronts! Okay, I'm done with my ranting for now. :D

Have it all, you ***** :P

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Illegal or Not?? Mango Scions

I'm confused -- I thought you could plant seeds of Coconut Cream? Because it's polyembryonic, you're not necessarily creating a clone in the way grafting a scion would? Help clarify for a Coconut Cream seed planter!

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: etxra edible jackfruit?

Yes, have heard of some jackfruits having edible "rag". I don't really care to munch on latex though.

I had gotten a nice one from HawaiianTropicalPlants a couple years ago, https://www.store.hawaiiantropicalplants.com/Garcinia-gummi-gutta-Gamboge-4x4x10inch-tree-pot-1638.htm

it was fairly large size and healthy.   Seems they still carry them but it says "back ordered", you could try emailing the seller he should be responsive.

Can I ask what the attraction of gamboge is, though?  I ordered it when I was initially collecting all the garcinias I could find and didn't read up much on it, seems like it isn't really for fresh eating, maybe cooking/medicine
Sorry for the mix up was refering to gamboge garcinia xanthochymus.
It's going to be used as rootstock. The fruit doesn't taste too good. Way too sour. I hear it's used in curries and stuff not for eating out of hand.
I actually enjoy Xanthochymus out of hand :o

I agree- it’s super sour, but pretty tasty.  Eaten ripe it’s kinda like the flavor of a super sour green mango to me, but the texture of a ripe mango.

Great texture, taste to me is like a lemon warhead candy, makes you pucker but has enough sweetness to satisfy

We're selling our 2 large Montrose Peruvian Apple Cacti if anyone is interested for local pickup on Pine Island. They are both fruiting and pollinate each other. They aren't looking the greatest right now from going through Ian (see last photo) but will recover when planted. They also can be propagated very easily from cutting.

Asking for $85 for the pair.

Sorry to hear that Jabba. We got ripped up as well in North Port. Luckily only some of my rare collection were affected, but my banana fences are gone and a lot of down fruit trees. Hope Pine island is back to normal soon because that's my go to for fresh fruit being so close to me. Hope everyone on the island is in good health. Cheers.

It'll take most a few years to bounce back but no doubt they will do it. Sorry to hear you had to experience this too, was not fun. A lot of people lost their lives so really for me to complain about anything else would be petty. Grateful to be alive!

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Complete decimation on Pine Island...
« on: October 04, 2022, 05:48:17 PM »
Hey y'all, we made it but our trees didn't :'( Those who were interested in budwood there's nothing left to take from, I apologize but we've had no internet nor service to get ahold of those requesting budwood, cuttings and grafts. Figured I'd update everybody because service is spotty as heck.

Updated!

Same with Avocados and grapes. Supposed to be a No No for dogs. Around here Foxes eat both types fruit, and dried raisins.
Every farm dog I have seen usually eats all three, if the farm grows it. Most seem to live normal length lives.

Grapes being poisonous to dogs is a complete myth. If anything they'd choke to death on a seeded grape, barring that nobody has ever identified a toxic compound in grapes that is deadly to pooches.
