You can place the pot in an area and make sure the tree is ok before you plant it.
Here's a picture of one of my sabaras. It has a slight lean from Hurricane Ian last year
It is fruiting now and had a nice batch of fruit a month ago.

I have some jabos under a large tree and they get morning sun
I also have some trees in the ground and they get a little more than half a day of sun.
The young trees I give less sun to.

I have several different types of jabos fruiting now.
It's not fun waiting on the trees to start.
I would focus on trying to make your tree happy and it will
fruit when it's ready. I definitely wouldn't girdle it
Once my trees started they fruit more and more often.
You don't have long to wait if your tree is 7 or 8.

If kohola is the most cold hardy, anyone got seeds of it? Since seed grown is more resillient. I would be interested in buying some. Ty.
I have two trees starting to flower now. Check back with me in July and I will have seeds
if you are still interested

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Where to buy mangos in SW Florida?

Check with me in June there are two local growers that may have surplus for sale
Both grower's trees are full of flowers/fruit now

In Florida cherimoya is preferred

agree
I had an illama and I have a cherilata that were grafted on pond apple and both
had issues at the union. The illama was the worst and had a boot that looked ready to
snap. The atemoyas in my yard that were grafted onto cherimoya you can barely
see the union or not at all

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Jaboticaba Full Sun??
« on: March 12, 2023, 09:24:08 PM »
Maybe slowly acclimate them to more sun and leave them in their pots in the area
you want to put them permanently
It they are not happy then you don't have to dig them up.
I have some in full sun in Florida and I also have some that get the first half of the day
in full sun.

I like it better than any other I have tried. It is a thin skin which is
also nice.

I have 6 seedling imbes growing now and planned to plant 3 in a space?
I figured about a foot apart in a triangle. They are only a little over a foot tall now

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Eugenia dasyblasta taste report
« on: March 08, 2023, 08:06:48 PM »
I have a Eugenia dasyblasta and the fruit looks nothing like the fruit in your
picture. I am not sure the plant matches yours as well.
The dasyblasta I have the fruit is much smaller and red colored.
It has the most unique taste also. It has less flesh but the flavor
is very intense. I would call it spicey. My tree is flowering now I will post
a picture when the fruit develops

I attempted to air layer a tree and it worked
I even attempted in the late Summer and no problem

Are you trying to make the soil more acidic with the peat moss?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Still no flies or bees
« on: February 26, 2023, 07:48:07 AM »
Even though my yard is exploding in mango blooms, I haven't seen ANY. In past years, I could find my dog's poop within minutes with the swarm of flies covering it but today? none. I can now  leave my sliding patio door open when I go out for a minute and in the past I could not!  My GF is over 25 miles north of me and she has the same situation.

Are the cities spraying excessively for mosquito control? If not what's going on?

Are the panicles setting fruit? At first I didn't see any pollinators but my pickering's
panicles were full of small fruit. Now I hear and see the different pollinators
