Other than 'Thai Giant', what other varieties are available in the US?

Anyone interested in trading some good quality California cherimoyas now for Florida mangos next summer?

I like the Pierce cherimoya but I am open to any other really good tasting ones also.

I can get a lot of different mango varieties so if we do this trade, you'll just send me a list of the mango varieties you're interested in and I'll send whichever ones I can get from that list.

Thanks!

Citrus General Discussion / Lemon tree dropping leaves
« on: November 28, 2025, 11:56:39 AM »
I have a lemon tree is 5-1-1 mix. It's been in that mix for about 1.5 years. Recently it started dropping green leaves. I'd say it's dropped about 1/3 of the green leaves in the last 3 months or so.

I water and fertilize regularly.

Any ideas on some possible causes?

Thanks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / New Pineapple Variety: Dole Colada Royale
« on: October 20, 2025, 10:51:07 AM »
A forum member sent me this link about a new pineapple developed by Dole that will be selling in stores this month: https://www.dole.com/produce/colada-royale-pineapple

Apparently it has a coconut flavor. Anyone try it yet?

I wonder if this the patent for it: https://ppubs.uspto.gov/api/pdf/downloadPdf/PP36298?requestToken=eyJzdWIiOiJiMTU0NDY4YS1kMDM0LTQ4ZWItYjliOC1jNmNmNzIzYWYxYTgiLCJ2ZXIiOiJjNTU1YTUxNS1mMjNmLTQyMjUtYTFlOC01MjdiMTExNzkxMTIiLCJleHAiOjB9

It's a hybrid between the Hana 57 aka Dole-12 and Dole-11 aka Tropical Gold.

Edit: Yes, that is the patent for the Colada Royale.

Anyone growing any rare or heirloom cacao varieties? I just read this book 'Wild Chocolate' and it has made me want to try to grow cacao again.

Anyone have any cool varieties of roselle that they're willing to share seeds from?

About 16 year ago, I got seeds from a really cool variety from CookieMonster but I never got around to replanting the seeds and then they lost viability.

Here are some pics from my harvest from 2009 or so:

My son's school is having a competition between the classes and which class gets a postcard postmarked from all 50 states first wins. There are a few states that his class still needs postcards from. If you're in one of those states, I will mail you mango and/or sapodilla budwood for free in exchange for a postcard mailed from that state with a social studies fact written on it.

I can probably get access to a bunch of different varieties. I will have a ton of Peach Cobbler mango budwood available though because I'm cutting down that tree soon.

I have a large Excalibur sapodilla tree, but if you want other varieties, let me know and I can try to source those as well.

If you're interested in helping out, reply with what state you're in and what varieties you're looking for. I'll PM you if I still need that state and if I have access to that variety.

I will mail the budwood for free via regular mail, but if you want it sent via Priority Mail, I'll only charge $5 to cover some of the Priority Mail cost.

Here is a list of the states that his class still needs postcards from:
Maryland
Michigan
Vermont
Virginia

Thanks for your help!

Update: The Dellerman pineapple stand will be open tomorrow 7/18 at 8:30am until sold out!

Mark Dellerman texted me and asked me to post in the forum that his drive through pineapple stand will be open tomorrow at 8:30am until sold out.

The address per the website is: 9150 N. US Highway 1, Sebastian, Florida (north of Rock City Gardens .9 mile north of SR 510) https://naturefarmsinc.weebly.com/contact.html

I bought a few pineapples today from AKOHO and so far the first one I cut open had the coconut flavor.

Citrus General Discussion / Wikipedia post on Key Lime
« on: April 26, 2025, 12:56:56 PM »
The wikipedia post for Key Lime sayd "The key lime is not to be confused with West Indian lime, bartender's lime, Omani lime, or Mexican lime which are slightly different."

Is that correct?

Does anyone have a pic of the label for the 0-3-22 fertilizer that Truly Tropicals and the Palm Beach Rare Fruit Council sells?

They are out of stock so I'm looking to see if I can find anything similar online.

I bought a Dole Tropical Gold pineapple yesterday and I have been trying to figure out whether it's an MG-03, MD-2, or some other cultivar.

Anyone know?

In the plant patent application for Dole-14, it said that Tropical Gold is MG-03. https://patents.google.com/patent/USPP20885P3/en

"The breed 'Mayan Gold 03' or 'MG-03' was derived from crossing the Pineapple Research Institute of Hawaii hybrid clones 58-1184 and 59-443. Mayan Gold 03, known as Tropical Gold, is a popular commercial variety that is recognized as yellow and golden bark and flesh color when matured."

This document is syaing that MD2 and MG-03 are the same: https://www.horticulture.com.au/globalassets/hort-innovation/historic-reports/study-tour-to-singapore-and-malaysia-incorporating-the-7th-international-pineapple-symposium-pi10001.pdf

This website is saying that the MD-2 and MD-1 are crosses between the 58-1184 and 59-443. So is the MG-03 the same cross as well, or is it another name for the MD2? https://www.chfusa.com/pineapples_md2.htm
