QuoteIf I understand correctly, slowly prune down the split part of the tree until it is flush with the main trunk? any recs for how much to reduce over how long?
I would remove the thing down to where the crack starts to seal up, cutting at a harsh angle so it sheds water. Ideally you would have done this pruning when dormant a few weeks / months ago. This is one of the very few times where I would be considering a sealant. Current arboriculture suggests against sealants these days, but this is a unique situation where it has a massive open wound that is letting water in. I would seal it up at the driest time of the year, if you're going to go with that.
That type of wound can kill the whole tree. There is no way around it, that is a really grave injury.
cut it back with sealant it very well would come back but not fruit for at least two years
Ooooof that sucks! That is a really tough condition to fix. It's only going to get worse, but you're going to maim the tree badly removing that. I would probably have removed it years ago, had it been mine, and would consider taking it back bit by bit till you can get water out of the tree.
Lowkey not a fan of cherimoya even when perfectly picked ripe from CA
I like soursop a decent bit
Rollinia is probably my favorite if picked at right time (lemon custard) and not slimy
Sugar apple is ok
IDK not a fan of annonas that much
-also don't get annonas from the store, they got to be all picked off tree or something or else it's not a solid representation of what it tastes like
here we have arbutus unedo growing everywhere as hedging, some of the fruits taste delicious! Like fizzy peach mango! and others taste like sawdust....
Need to find the best-tasting one and clone it. As far as I know cultivars for A. unedo are few and far between or hard to get, mostly Compacta seems the easiest to get, and some say it's the same variety as Elfin King. So they're grown as hedging, mostly ornamentally, and some happen to be great fruits (according to posts like yours across the internet, mine hasn't fruited yet) and most stink, and yet still nobody really isolates the great-tasting ones and sells them. Why? What am I missing? Even OneGreenWorld only sells Compacta.
If you have pouteria viridis (Green Sapote ) seeds, please let me know
