Here is an archive of his citrus blog from around 2007. He created many different citrus hybrids though has not been active for a few years.

I have plans for the future so right now it’s just a waiting game for stuff to start blooming to make any crosses. Only thing so far that is blooming for me  is just Thomasville.

Cold Hardy Citrus / Re: US-802 citrumelo
« on: August 29, 2023, 01:03:31 AM »
Hard to get, not listed as available from UCR. I have a tree I bought from a nursery that is actually using this as the rootstock, but the tree is a Trifoliate+Satsuma. Not gonna decapitate it for US 802.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: New Kumquat Variety?

It’s not fake, I talked to the person growing this and it’s 100% real. Some of them are already flowering and are grafted.

Cold Hardy Citrus / US-802 citrumelo

Citrus grandis 'Siamese' X Poncirus trifoliata 'Gotha Road' https://citrusvariety.ucr.edu/crc4266

When used as a rootstock it makes a vigorous tree and extremely large tree. I see that it's crossed with Siamese pummelo, which could either be the acidless version or the other siamese pomelo, as they have two accessions of siamese pomelo. It would be interesting to use this in crosses instead of dunstan since it may carry acidless in the gene pool if it uses the siamese acidless pomelo 🤔

Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / WTB - Grafted Dunstan Citrumelo
« on: August 08, 2023, 11:35:44 AM »
Looking for a mature budded dunstan citrumelo, or any other type of citrumelo.

12
They do have some healthy trees though. Recently bought a Thomasville and it came in with some fruitlets.

I've had Erem x Shek, died during the Christmas Freeze last year with a low of 9F. Gonna try again though..

Citrus Buy, Sell, & Trade / Re: Finger lime in bloom. Need pollen.

Walt I would be interested in that idea. I have an ichang papeda and would like to cross it with other sp. like poncirus, and its hybrids.

15
Probably not a hybrid. Citrus australis has a juvenile leaf stage and a mature leaf stage. Over time the leaves will go from conifer shaped to diamond shaped leaves.

16
It’s just a misspelling, nothing too crazy. Different variations of name for the same thing.

18
Both are correct spellings, and the listing is correct. Have ordered from them before and received healthy tall grafted trees.

Wouldn't citrus glauca be better for hybridizing? It goes into dormancy. Tolerates temps below zero fahrenheit. Salt tolerant, drought tolerant, hlb tolerant. It's cold tolerance isn't as high but it's close to poncirus. But the fruit is actually edible. And there are hybrids with oranges and lemons out there. It's also relatively small in size. The only negative is fruits fall off the tree pretty soon after ripening.

Hopefully I'll get some eremoorange and erenolemon seeds. I mainly want disease resistant stuff.

Citrus glauca doesn't tolerate temps below zero Fahrenheit, correct me if I'm wrong I've just heard of it being hardy to just about -10. But I do plan on using microcitrus (inodora and australis) for crossing with zygotic trifoliate hybrids like US 852, or the others mentioned if I can ever source them

Cold Hardy Citrus / Ichang Papeda from seed?
« on: May 16, 2023, 11:01:06 AM »
OK. Ichang papeda is very heterogenous I've heard. I've also heard that even self pollinating it with itself will not be true to type and may show different characteristics like hardiness, fruit size, dry pith vs juicy pith, and leaf petiole size. Specifically with ichang papeda I've seen 2 fruit types: one with dry pith and kind of tear drop shaped, and one which is more globose and is very juicy yet have the same leaf petiole size (double leaf). Also sometimes the leaves may be stiff and pointing up to the sky, while other specimens show even a kind of weeping style, with leaves kind of hanging.

So how does ichang papeda in its natural range even manage to maintain prevalence?

I just tossed some Ichangstar60 and N1tri seeds in a pot. So I don't know if its either Ichangstar60 or N1tri, but I'm leaning towards Ichangstar60

Exciting crosses. You should make a website or something and post everything honestly

24
I had some Ichangstar60 seedlings, most of them died but about 3 or 4 are coming back from the roots after 4 days below freezing and a low of 9F.

That sounds good, frost hardiness also should get a little better with age and size.
I have a 2 year grafted ichangstar 60 on PT which gets in ground the bext days. Im very excited how hardy it will be compared to my other in ground citrus hybrids.

Yep. This time I'm going to let them grow out and gain some size so they won't die again back 2 back years and die completely. Excited to see how it compares to other zygotic seedlings in the same pot.
