Avacado Tree Leggy

Hi everyone..First post and hoping you all can help

I have an Avacado tree thats about 18 years old..Decent fruiter but I noticed that over the years its gotten more "leggy" and less leaves. Also complete small branch dye off at a considerable rate. I know during a flower the tree can drop leaves but it seems its losing a canopy and fullness over the years

I will try to fertilize more this year to see if that helps but any advice is appreciated

I don't know whether your tree has a particular issue, but some avocado varieties are "leggy."  I think it's sometimes described as "tall and slender."

Study avocado pruning. they come back quickly and you can get it the way you want. Here is a pic of how they cut back large avocado in California. The canopy rebuilds and you can shape them. You maybe can do a section at a time.
