Decent germination of "large fruited Poncirus"
« on: August 22, 2022, 03:31:06 PM »
I picked these up from J Hudson for fun and was surprised that they were pretty fresh and had decent germination. Still not sure what they actually are. Quite likely one of the common rootstock hybrids.

Broad leaflets suggest Citrumelo seedlings.

Yea I figured it's probably some rootstock hybrid. J Hudson had it listed as "Possible hybrid" figured it would probably be one of the common rootstocks. Mostly surprised to get good germination from any seed catalog citrus. Probably grow these out and use them as rootstock down the line.

How were those seed sent to you ? Were they sent damp in a zip lock or dry in an envelope as per the normal JL Hudson seeds ?
Interested to know how that went.
I have dealt with JL Hudson frequently in the past, when it was easier to buy seed into Australia.
( Is that the same Hudson ?)
I'm sure they would love some feedback from here about how the seed went, any any variety ID forum members can make on it.

They were in a tiny coin ziplock. When I peeled them they were still quite fresh looking. Yes JL Hudson seedsman, the seedbank.

How long will it take for the seedlings to bear fruit?
