When to harvest Annona Rosada?
« on: January 08, 2022, 07:57:27 PM »
Hi guys,

I grafted it on my brother's tree couple year ago.  Finally, there is a first fruit and want to know how we can tell or when to harvest it?  Lately, it's rain alot, I'm afraid it will split.

Thanks
Tony

My family harvests then when they have a split or crack, and never before. In the markets, upon purchase, almost all of them, if not all all will have splits on their side. Once you see that it will be ready and you just wrap in some newspaper, cloth or place it with some other fruits like bananas and give it a day or two for the pulp to ripen or soften and enjoy.

Assuming this is an iliama graft, what root stock did you graft onto?

wow congratulations! I've never been successfull grafting this variety on my cherimoya trees... I think you'll have to wait just a little more until the flakes expand a bit but it looks gorgeous :D
I love growing tropical fruits in Almunecar, Southern Andalusia, I also deliver them to western Europe through my web www.tiendadefruta.com

Happy to help you if I can :)

Alright guys.  It's not good.  Last Sunday, I saw it crack on tree, took it in the house and left it in kitchen counter.   Here is how it looks.  Does anyone have any idea?  Thanks

I could be wrong but I feel like i remember reading somewhere that ilama will crack and then callus over on the tree prior to ripening. Possibly picked too early?

They are supposed to crack when ripe. Usually a day or two later they are best to eat. Just remove the "scab" area that is exposed  where it cracks. Good luck

Finally, I am able to harvest 1 this year.  It's ok for small tree, maybe next year will better next year or so.

Rosada Ilama and it should be more pink inside than that. Let them drop off and most of the time they will have split before then and the exposed areas healed.

More likely to be climate related I think
