Matsumoto persimmon source in SoCal?
« on: January 06, 2023, 01:31:38 PM »
Hi all -- has anyone had luck finding matsumoto persimmon trees for sale in southern California?

I can find them online, but many sellers don't seem to ship to California.

In store, seems like only Fuyu or Haichiya.

Thanks!

Hi all -- if anyone is looking for persimmons in SoCal, especially the inland empire region, consider checking out the massive bare root collection of trees at Cherry Valley Nursery. They had Giant Fuyu, Chocolate, Coffeecake, Haichiya, regular fuyu, all around 5-6ft tall, about $50-$60. No matsumoto but I was still happy to find the above ones.

Last year at the Orange County CRFG budwood exchange I picked up some Matsumoto Wase scions. The persimmons were plentiful, everybody seem more interested in the avocado scions ahah. May be a bit of a drive for you but it's coming up in week.

Ok, thanks. I may still have some persimmon cuttings to take at that time.
Also, should have some mulberry cuttings to take.

Last year, there's no entrance fee or parking fee.  If there's an event at the OC fair that day just tell them your here for the scion exchange when you enter the parking area.

If you are not a member of the OC CRFG, they still would like you to bring any fruit tree cuttings to share with the others who bring cuttings for the exchange.

I did get more info in my mail about it. If you bring any cuttings, there's a way they want you to package it and label each bag (see attached). Also if you are dropping off the scionwood you should get there between 9:30-10am, event starts at 10am. Don't bring any cuttings from patented varieties.
