Resort high-end Hotel housekeeping issues mango tourist
« on: July 03, 2023, 06:54:07 AM »
Has anyone else experienced similar issues. I have a pretty long history with Resorts and hotels but recently it seems that the housekeeping staffs or way too comfortable entering rooms. I recently experienced this on the Atlantic side ended on the Gulfside. Where housekeeping knocks on your door before you can even get halfway there they've already opened and have walked in. I fully understand that these establishments have safe in the room and do not disturb side lock patches on the door hatch. But I find the frequency of the housekeeping staff checking doors and entering is peculiar. The first instant I had left the room without putting the do not disturb sign on my grandbaby was in the living room watching cartoons and my wife was sleeping. While I was down at the car the housekeeping staff not twice I was halfway in the room before my wife could wake out of her Slumber and meet them and was caught off guard and totally shocked. Next incident happened over on the Gulf side where I had left the room to go to a mango tasting dinner housekeeping staff knocked on the door started to come in my wife met them he said oh I thought you needed towels. First off we had only been there one day and did not request any assistance but even more peculiar later that day when I had returned and my wife had left and we hadn't quite compared notes yet. I was relaxing heard two quick Knocks before I could jump up and get to the door and made was already in the room and I was half-dressed. She asked if I needed service I replied if I was 20 years younger but no I do not need any service. So not comparing notes with my wife I wasn't aware that she had already been there and was told we do not need a house or housekeeping assistance. But I see see this as a more frequent trend in our society today. So just makes me think since I can't put my mangoes in the safe are they having a housekeeping tasting party out of my refrigerator  or cooler while I'm making transactions down the road. I guess I'm going to have to buy a game camera to record such tasting events

Well, I seriously doubt they are eating your mangoes  ;)
We travel a lot, and everywhere we go, there is a serious labor shortage, especially in places like hotel housekeeping. People just won't take those jobs anymore.
So those gals are doing double the work. They don't have TIME to taste your fruit.

We ALWAYS do one of two things, sometimes both -
1. Upon checkin, we say we do NOT need any housekeeping. If we run out of towels or toilet paper we go to the front desk. Many places we have traveled lately (mostly West coast) have instituted a "housekeeping will not enter rooms" policy. We get a basket to set outside the door with dirty towels and empty tp rolls and they swap them out in the hallways.
2. The "Do Not Disturb" sign is permanently hanging on our door. Avoids questions like "why is your room full of trees?" etc.

Cheers, Carolyn

Thanks for the tips and I do relay to the room being full of trees. On a positive note I did give away a bag of Carrie mangos to the housekeeping staff because I brought too many and purchased much.🙂

Maybe it’s different here in Florida but I agree with Daintree based on my travels to the west coast. Generally, I would let the front desk know that I wanted housekeeping the next day. They wouldn’t come into my room otherwise.

Starting to think maybe a chicken foot or claw would be more effective then a do not disturb sign in South Florida. Being facetious sarcastic. My West Indian family  would find that humorous

I haven't stayed anywhere in years and when I do it is rock bottom cheapest motel that still cost $180 a night but spraying some Lysol is what they consider cleaning. But at the non ghetto places like days inn or something especially if I'm there for more than one night they keep coming in cleaning and bothering me over and over. I tell them to leave me alone they say they get in trouble if they don't clean the rooms. If I'm staying several days I tell them just go hide somewhere and tell your boss you were cleaning it. I'll tell them the same. But they don't speak English very well and don't seem to understand me.

I hate working menial jobs because the boss tells you to stay busy or you have to clock out and go home so if you work hard you work yourself out of a job. They don't let their staff just chill when they catch up. I'm thinking that's the issue. They just need to look like they are doing something. Otherwise it's part time hours. Most Americans would figure out to hide in the bathroom or something until their shift is over but the foreigners don't know the game where our boss pretends to pay us and we pretend to work.

I worked in the industry most of my life.  This is the best thing to do.

John 51 will do! We also take a painters canvas cloth to throw over the couches and chairs and put the remote control in a clear freezer bag. Another complaint I have is the resorts and hotels pillows are so thick that your neck is almost at a 90° angle so we also take our favorite pillows from home🙂

I may hang these on the door for good measure hopefully Fat Tuesday doesn't walk by may just make him hungry😂

Rosen Reports:::
Just showed the portable keypad door lock for travelers to prevent maids etc. from entering your room even with the key...
Very simple to place in between door and wood latch area then wrap a chain over inside handle to keep the door closed...
Under $15 on amazon and apparently recommended by airline personnel when traveling. They also suggest checking out your room for people with your luggage keeping door open so you can escape (I guess the airline personnel are targeted due to their looks etc.) and lead with an object around corners like a coat hanger so the bad guys will grab it instead of you as you turn the corner and you drop it as you run out of the room...

Good idea here's another option I'm thinking of
Properly locking your cooler is the only way to ensure that your cooler is bear proof. Yes, most roto molded coolers are certified bear proof; however they have to be properly locked in order to prevent wildlife OR unwanted hands from entering your cooler

It sounds like you've had some interesting experiences with housekeeping during your recent stays. It can definitely be a bit surprising when housekeeping enters without waiting for a response. Communication and privacy are important aspects of any hotel or resort stay.
