I love Loquats for the simple reason that they are the only thing available in my yard in early Spring.  The remind me a juicy apricot.  They also hang a long time on the tree and don't ripen all at once.  Not a big fan of all the seeds, but they are easy to spit out.
I will plant a few Yangmei trees on my property because I have the space for it and like the fruit diversity.  However, if I had a small yard and wanted a productive fruit tree that is easy to manage, I would go with a nectarine, or cherry, or peach, or aprium, or nectaplum, or create a K-Rimes-esque multigrafted stone fruit tree.

Appreciate the honest review.  I have a couple packs on the way.  I wasn't going in with high expectations anyways, this is more for ticking the box on trying them (and getting seeds in the process).

I just got my fruits delivered today, it tastes good. I purchased two 8oz containers, $22 each.

I will post photos later tonight, here's the results of my brix reading:
1. King Lychee (erdon lee), brix =13
2. Red Rambutan, brix =11
3. Purple Pearl Yangmei, brix=12

In comparing these 3 fruits I just tasted, I like the King Lychee the best, then the Yangmei, and last is the Rambutan.

I got both kinds. They didn't come labeled. One had moldy fruit. The bigger, lighter colored one tastes like raspberry, but sweeter, like if a strawberry tasted more like raspberry. It's not as good as that makes it sound though. The exterior is edible, which is nice, and the seed isn't too bad to eat around.  The texture of the skin is weird against my tongue, takes away a bit. Rough, bumpy, and fairly firm. Once you get to the last bit of flesh, it takes some work to separate from the seed, and I feel like I need to floss after. The smaller, darker one tastes like an under-ripe strawberry, where the strawberry is mostly white inside but still tastes a little sweet. The bigger one also has that underripe strawberry flavor, kind of like the strawberry leaves attached to the fruit. A "green" flavor. It is pretty strong, giving the fruit a bit of a "wild" taste. There's about 20 of the big, 30 of the small. Big just under 8 oz, small just over. They both smell strongly of that "green" strawberry leaf flavor. I'd say the taste of it is stronger or more obtrusive in the large, but it may just be that the large one has other nice flavors that this takes away from, whereas the small is just semi-sweet unripe strawberry.

The lychees have a ton of flesh, but the taste is honestly pretty bad. They're really soft, so maybe deteriorating. They smell like sunscreen, and the flavor... I don't know. It's actually a bit like that chemically flavor durian can have. The aftertaste reminds me of eating something astringent, but without the dry-mouth.

Going back to yangmei, the small one tastes like unripe strawberry with the leaves mixed in. The bigger one is much better. I got one really ripe small one that is much better than the others, about as good as the bigger ones. The seeds are probably half the size.

Are yangmei related to strawberry tree? Fruit and leaves are similar.

lWhere did you find Erdon Lee. I couldn't find it on Weee. Looking for seeds.

Got mine late last night.  Snacked on a few, they are pretty good tasting but nothing incredible.  I could see them becoming more popular if there was more supply and cheaper price per pound.

Itay Gazit. as I understand it, King Lychee is Erdon Lee. That's why the fruit is so large. I'm growing out all of my seeds from this fruit. It must have been a short special sale since I didn't see it again after that one week when Simon mentioned it was at the store. I asked the produce person at the store and they said that was it. Not from Weee, it was from 99 Ranch Market.

If you want to by some seeds, I can sell you 5 for $15 plus shipping.

SDPirate, I ordered 2 boxes of each type of yangmei, I agree with your, cost too much, taste is good. I like my loquats more for sweetness but these yangmei have a nice berry taste (sweet & tart) which is different from other fruits I have eaten.

I recently purchased two boxes of the Purple Pearl Yangmei and they tasted great to me. Iíve also purchased frozen fruit from China and those were horrible. These fruit from Weee taste just like the ones my friend sent me from Calmei a couple years ago except these were a bit smaller and slightly beat up from the shipping.

Yangmei is not a fruit with a powerful taste explosion. It has subtle hints of mulberry, blackberry, strawberry and is really refreshing to eat, especially when chilled. I really liked them the first time I tried them and now I think I love them even more.

From the 4 boxes Ive purchased so far, I would say that these Yangmei from Weee are representative of what Yangmei tastes like. If you donít like the taste of these Yangmei from Weee, you probably just wonít like Yangmei. The different varieties have a slightly different taste and Iíve only tasted a handful of Yangmei varieties but I canít wait to try them all.

Yangmei does not have an explosion of flavor like a Sweet Tart mango but it is absolutely delicious and I find that the more of these fruit I eat, the more addicting they become.

Everyoneís taste buds are different so Iím sure some people just wont like this fruit but I really hope more people can taste this new rare fruit arrival.

Taste is also learned, and as we eat more of a particular thing, the buds fine tune.

I got a box of purple pearl and the eastern giant. Purple pearl was a bit sweeter, but Eastern Giant was more complex. I enjoyed them, but I would say these were not nearly as good as last year's Calmei crop which I would rate 8/10. I'd give these 7/10. They appeared to be just a touch underripe and that was confirmed by seeing many with stems attached (one even had a leaf).

I ordered more yangmei varieties from Feed which seems to have some more variety. For me, it's good value for the seeds which I know will turn into plants which I can sell or give away. I've been giving away one seedling at the local Horticultural Society raffle each month to get people to pay more attention to rare fruit.

I, too, ordered Purple Pearl (Biqi) and Eastern Giant (Dongkui).  The Eastern Giant definitely had more complexity and better overall flavor.  I think Simon once described a flavor hint of a Yangmei variety as sandlewood.  That was exactly the subtle flavor that I got from the EG aside from the dominant flavor of mixed berries. Still not a top 10 fruit for me but I can see the appeal.  Much like Mulberries, an excellent snack tree that produces early-mid season fruit.
