ISO: velvet apple/mabolo fruit (not seeds/cuttings)
« on: April 24, 2024, 03:03:49 PM »
Hey hey,

Been really keen on trying this fruit before potentially attempting to grow it. If anyone is growing the fruit or can point me in a specific direction, would love to buy a small sample amount!

There are some retailed fruit growers who have it, but they don't ship to california.

Thanks in advance!

Plant some Persimmons, Mabolo a no go yo. not too great texture or flavor either,
Never seen fruit for sale anywhere in the states. Rare in FL if it can even be fruited there.

Well have you tried the fruit .
I live in florida and I actually enjoyed the flavor but I heard that it might have different flavors if grown by seed.

there is variability.  i have had good ones from grafted trees in hawaii. it's not a flavor for everyone, but a good one does have that nice sweet cheese taste.  actually, i want to add it to a cracker wit honey and mac nuts on top with chili pepper jelly.

You got peanut butter fruit, blackberry jam fruit, and then you got a fruit that some people would use as a creamy cheese spread. Mother nature is the original innovator; We are just following her path!...😁

Teach a man to fish, and he will be able to catch fish for life.

Teach a man to nurture plants, and he will be able to eat durian, soursop, mangosteen, papaya, rambutan, and guava fruits for life!

Yeah, there are fruiting trees at Fruit n Spice Park in FL.  I've had a couple fruit from there and thought they were decent, sweet and slightly cream cheesy kinda flavor if I remember correctly.  Trees are diocious, I believe, and recall folks saying there's a lot of variability tree to tree if they are good or trash.

I meant to say velvet apple, but I’ve heard that some nance fruits can have that creamy cheesy-like taste as well, particularly the ripe ones...

they taste and smell of cheese- if you are on a fruitarian diet and want cheese they may have value, otherwise hard pass from me- had the chance to eat the fruti and one of the few times I have passed

there are a couple trees in Fruit and Spice park in Miami- perhaps you can bribe one of our more local members to go
