Armored Edward safely ripening beneath the chainmail:

1st Ceci Love of the season. Small, but not to be underestimated. The sap from this thing drove me nuts, smells so good.

...similar thing with Lil Gem, noticed a very floral and complex aroma from the fruits I sadly decided to break off. Unique to me. Very pleasant.

Roblack, what does Ceci love taste like? Any comparisons to more common mangos? There’s a ton of hype around this one—is it justified?

Believe the hype. Ceci Love is top 5, usually 1st or 2nd place depending on the year/fruit. Has similarities to Sweet Tart. CL is extremely sweet, with complexity, mild acid, and resinous spice. ST is extremely sweet, with complexity, more acid, and less resinous spice. ST is tarter, CL is more resinous.

Beyond that, clean fruit that is resistant to most diseases in the area, and produces well and consistently. What is not to love about this mango??

Haden is good in many ways, and is a legend for good reason. Tons of our new beloved favs wouldn't exist without Haden. But, it is disease prone in my area. Frustrating dealing with the quickly spreading dark spots as the fruits ripen. Same with a few other old school varieties growing in the neighborhood. Neighbors give a ton of mangoes that are starting to rot. Glenn is a reasonable alternative taste-wise, and produces cleaner fruit.

But yeah, that Haden looks amazing, and I would love to have a few! =)

That is just nuts! Sad to see your hog damage CC; squirrels pale in comparison. Hope you can find a safe and pragmatic way to regulate. Hopefully you are having a big BBQ party soon =)

Pretty close to perfect Glenn for breakfast this morning. Picked green about 5 days prior.

14 oz.

Juicy and peachy, plenty sweet.

Update on G1 and G2. They get some direct sun and a bit of dappled and indirect light. Lots of rain in the last week or so. New growth flush looks healthy. Haven't fed them yet.

WOW! Super exciting!! Would love to see pics as they ripen and hear about the fruit when sampled.

It's been a while since I've had a pitangatuba. There are definitely some differences in flavor complexity, and similarities (sour). Probably more similar than not. I remember something interesting and different to the pitangatuba I had last season, but it was also a bit overripe. Gotta check for ripening tubas tomorrow.

E. anthrophaga fruits:

Softer skins this time, with plenty of flavor, not just sour. These could be awesome in dishes, deserts, and drinks.

They are probably a little under a pound each. Any sign of yellow or even orange, and I pick Glenn. If you let them go long enough, can sniff test them. If you detect a hint of peaches, ready to pick. OS is harder, but also starts to yellow some. Dry stems also help me zero in on mangoes that are ripening.

Over 2.5 inches here today, over 6 in the last week. From months of drought to now more than necessary.

Picked a few Glenns and Orange Sherbets today. Critters have been eating 1 or 2 Glenns per day (can't bag em' all), so picking mostly green. It's fun debating with my teen whether or not a mango is ready for picking.

I'm on the north end of Orlando so limited in a few ways, but the varieties that do really well in my area are:

M-4
Sein ta Lone (Guava Mango)
Pickering
Honey Kiss
Glenn

I think M-4 is the one I would score highest. Honestly I could probably convince more people to grow it if it had a most descriptive name.

Tell em its, "mmmm, to die 4!"

Didn't notice any latex, nor any bothersome after effects. Only ate 1 fruit. Chewed up the whole thing, but didn't eat the skin, which was a little tough. Took pics, but lighting was bad. Will get some today when I eat more.

Tried e. anthro. fruit last night. Mostly sour, with some green mango lime-like quality. Tiny bit of sweetness. Zero bitter or astringency. Little bit of juice. One seed. Could see using them for flavor like lemons and limes. In fact, the flavor was better than lemons and limes. Not as much juice though. Verdict: keeping the tree! Will use fruit as garnish and to add to juices. Freeze drying could be great too. Will sample with miracle fruit, bet that is a winning combo.

Awesome! Great job getting your tree to maturity and to fruit!!

Whether you're a mother or whether you're a brother (and everyone else), Happy Mother's Day!

Did this spread for my wife, and she hit me with, "Yeah, but where's the lechon??

Fruit is mix from Mango Men (most mangoes and Wangoes), Lara Farms (mamey), Spaugh (cados), and our garden (coconut, tomatoes, passion fruit, saps, and a few mangoes).

Some cool and interesting selections there BnS! You have quite a few I know little about.

Considering chomping down on one of these e. anthros and seeing what I can taste:

Thanks Kevin! After my initial shock, I wanted to share with others =)

A bit like tiny jakfruit flowers. Only seeing male flowers so far. Saw another much larger and established tree the other day. It was flowering too. Gotta feeling will finally be sampling kwai muk in the near future.

Found 1st flowers on our in-ground kwai muk =)

I'm not much of a cado grower, but from what I know and recall, think it is a good idea to protect young trees and branches from too much sun exposure (any variety). Mostly filtered light, with some direct, is usually how I go. Spaugh and Squam would be the best people I know of to ask.

It is neither Haden nor TA. It is an older school mango, but not one of the more common varieties. He told me what it is, just don't recall at the moment.
