Dwarf Eureka lemon : resin results in darkened bark + orange spot above graft
(1/1)
polaris8030:
I used Tanglefoot on a wrap-around in Nov 24 at the base of the trunk because black ants kept running up and down. Removed it in June and I see that the bark has turned dark and shriveled. Not going to use this product anymore.
Reason I removed the Tanglefoot is because I saw an orange spot above the wrap-around area.
Tree at the moment seems to be doing ok. Ants still prevalent but in smaller numbers.
Your advice is appreciated. Thanks!

As you found, applying tanglefoot directly to the trunk seems to harm the tree. I had done this once before and the tree survived but the mark stayed for years. If you put some aluminum foil around and then apply the tanglefoot to that it can work, but I still find it too messy. I have better luck with borax ant bait traps, they just take a while to work.
I'm not sure what the orange spot on the bark is. Maybe sunburn?
