Tropical Fruit Discussion / Chili seeds
« on: November 08, 2015, 10:03:22 PM »
I do not know whether this is the right forum to post my question, but I happened to buy 'Carolina Reaper' and 'Datil' seeds from 'Seeds Direct". These are the Chilis I have on my plants. I think I have been taken for a ride.

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Pawpaw seedlings

I managed to sprout three pawpaw seedlings, but after putting out a few leaves, the terminal bud stops growing, dies and then the leaves start to whither one after the other. Can any one tell me what could be the reason? Is it possible to save the seedlings? Thanks.

Jacob, what do you mean by large seed. In most mangosteen fruits you find only one seed. so do I have to collect these seeds from many fruits and plant only the  comparatively bigger ones? Please elaborate, will be highly appreciated.

Creamy white flowers means it is Pachira glabra.

Greenman, If you bought it as an ornamental, it is probably Pachira glabra, a similar species. It will have a thick base. If you put it in the ground it will fruit in three years, with plenty of sun and water

The lower row looks same as the 'Christmas Bells' I have, but they are not hot at all. In fact my CBs are sweet!!

We have the same fruit in Kerala, but it is lighter in colour. As far as I know it is a hybrid of cucumber and pumpkin. When we use cucumber seeds from the last crop, grown in a field of cucumbers and pumpkins, many a time, one of the vines produce this fruit!!!

Sorry, but it has been raining cats and dogs in my end of Kerala, so I could manage only one photo. The tree is 8 feet tall now, without any pruning and has been fruiting for the last 4 years. It is an airlayered tree. I will post more photos as soon as the rains stop.

Here the Avocadoes are not labelled and it was one I bought to eat. The tree must be about 8 to 9 yrs old. This is the third year it is fruiting and looks like alternate. This year I got around 20 fruits while last year only 5 or 6. I will see if I can get a photo when I get back to my garden on Monday.

I grow to eat. All of my close family and my friends like Avocado, so at the moment I do not have enough to sell. May be in future I might sell when I have more than enough.
