Interesting Jack variety from Laos
« on: April 29, 2015, 05:45:24 AM »
Hi All,

Thought of sharing a few snaps of this rare and interesting Jackfruit i managed to get from a friend's farm here in Kerala, last month. The Jack tree was raised from seed brought from Laos a few decades ago. The fruit weighs an average 1.5 Kg, is less pungent compared to the regular Jack varieties, and is almost latexless. The arils are bright yellow, long, with smaller seeds and the flesh is crunchy & sweet. Though a good fruit on the whole, i'd prefer some of the superior native varieties to this one!

flesh looks good, interesting skin. i have had ones about this small, but with soft/chewy flesh, they were easy to open with very little latex, could just pull the skin off with my hand.

Lots of breeding work needed for this icebox Laotian Jack! I love to buy some seeds but too bad you in India, every purchases and trade end up with dessicated fungus collection upon arrival!😭😿😹😱
