One other question - I’ve noticed that the leaves on my Pickering are a much lighter green (almost lime green) compared to the leaves of most of my other mango trees. Is this normal or does it indicate an issue?

I planted it in ground from a pot about a month or two ago. It did put on a few healthy looking growth flushes while in the pot…

My Pickering tree always had very dark green leaves.

Yes, that is a tough choice!  As far as range of flavors and growability, mango is the obvious winner.

I say yes, too.  One thing you should know about Pickering is that it can set hundreds of fruit, but 90% of them will fall off, still leaving you with plenty of fruit.  Whatever your tree holds until maturity next season will be the proper number for a tree of that size.  I'd say you might get a dozen.  Exciting, isn't it?

For personal consumption only, I would imagine.  Sounds like fun.  VA has that law already.

I have a real bad experience regarding avocado trees from FL and PR. They all died. I can give it a try one more time if it is worth to try though. I will buy it only during the winter season.

If I were in CA, I don't think I'd mess with avocado trees from FL or PR.

I have Wurtz, Maria Black, and Day.

So far all are staying compact.

But I don't think they're for NorthCal.

I am not excusing shitty behavior at all, and in most cases I am sure people know they are stealing and don't care, but I wonder if this is partly because people don't value things they don't understand.

No, people don't value things they don't understand. I've been fighting my HOA board who want to destroy my garden.  Not one gardener on that board, and their houses look like shit landscape-wise.  They don't even appreciate beauty/aesthetics.  They're perfectly happy to turn the community into a barren wasteland as long as no one is violating the rules they arbitrarily created.

I think people rationalize stealing fruit because their idea is you won't miss whatever fruit they choose to steal.  Other people like the thrill, as well.  Yes, I guess a gun pointed at them wouid make them re-evaluate unless they come back with their own guns and shoot your place up.

Last year I planted both Better Boy and Beefmaster.  Better Boy was a dud (in SoCal it was wildly successful), but Beefmaster worked out well.  I think most cherry-type tomatoes do well here.

Personally, I would prefer waiting a few weeks for a better tasting mango.  By all accounts Dwarf Hawaiian is the better tasting mango unless you don't like its flavor profile.  (Disclosure: I've never tasted either one.)

We had so much mangoes this year , I was able to fill my freezer with mango pulp , should last me mist if the year Guava & Mango smoothies 👍🏼
