Tropical Fruit Discussion / Lavender Mulberry
« on: October 16, 2016, 07:46:45 AM »
hybrid mulberry i found at my uncle and aunts place on the river bank today.

Thought it may be of interest to some of you, never seen nothing like it before. Uncle has a white at his house and the wild black ones grow feral everywhere down the river. Tasted awesome.

Here are the ones you sent me Miguel!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Pitomba leaves, need help.

Haha not me Mr Luc! I wasn't around in those days of the yahoo group, wish I was though with all heltons rare offerings. I got all my pitombas as foot tall trees. One from bmc and another from forbidden fruits nursery. The one from bmc didn't fruit for a while then it put out about 50 fruit that were small and totally seedless and the other only first fruited 3 fruits start of this year. Now both are absolutely covered in blossoms. One around 3' tall and the other 2.5' tall. I must say though the fragrance of the flowers reminds me of when you walk into a busy pub and the smell of stale beer from the carpets. Not a bad smell but a smell that reminds me of being a kid and going to the pub for lunch with the folks.

Eugenia mosenii was slowest for me. Over one year. Wish I knew observa was over four months, some I got a while ago I threw around the three month mark because there were no signs of life.

Yeah all sorted now. Little dieback of twiggy branches on one but both are covered in a mass of flowers at the moment.

That is interesting, the only Eugenia of mine that went like that in winter was Eugenia patrissii.  What other types of eugenias did you buy?

Yes, given enough space they are very vigorous. I have got a orange Involucrata that is nudging three feet at a tad over 1 year old. I have kept minimum of three trees of each to hopefully get something tasting good.

Hi huertas, I have two types, both given same treatment since germination and from same source but one is very much tree like reaching for the sky. It is producing first flowers for me now. The second is same age but very much compact growth form, it is almost 50cm tall where as the other is abot 1.8m tall. No flowers on the compact form yet but the leaves are very much different as tall one has long leaves about 50-70 mm long while the compact has 25mm leaves. I will try and post photos when I get home tomorrow.

What variety of pomegranete is that? They are one fruit I love when I see photos like that but I have to pull my finger out and pick a variety and plant it. Any recommendations on a good red variety?

If I head up to Bundy in the next couple of weekends I could get some reinwardtiana seeds if you want some. Big couple of bushs down the road from my house that are always loaded.

Hi good fruit growing people of the world! Putting a shout out to anybody growing or anybody that has any unusual types of eugenias growing wild near them, I will pay good money for any i havnt got. Not fussed by eating qualities, ornamental or unknown species just trying to collect them all . Thanks everybody for any help. Much appreciated.

I have two aswell, one is about 50 cm also and extremely shrubby. The other is about to hit 2m and I had to cut a big branch off it to get the thing growing more like a tree and less like a monster. It is now a single trunk and very nice shaped. Didn't take any hurt to having half of its mass chopped off.

49
I have cinctured the trunk with good success and one of the old mans mates reckons using the chain to give the jabo a hiding.
