Wondering which tropical fruits we can list, that have seeds/fiber/skin prone to getting stuck in teeth, throat, and mouth....etc...

For me,

Passion fruit seeds get caught in my teeth when I crush them up, but they don't bother me.

Dragon fruit seed is worst!! Gets stuck in my teeth so bad!!! right in molars! Love them still

Mango of course fiber when I eat flesh from seed..

Jaboticaba, if  you clean the seed, always puts like a piece of silk between my front teeth..LOL, I eat em with out cleaning the seed to well, and this does fine for me.

Guava seeds in teeth, arrggg..eatem up any wayz...I love em...

I'm sure I forgot a ton!!

Help me out thanks!

Hi Garcinia minded fruitsters,

Which garcinias have you noticed exuding gamboge the most?

The G. livingstonei exudes the least, maybe because it's old world?  Any way, my other new world Garcinias seem to exude gamboge (sap like, sticky resin on trunk)...I love to rub it off and smell it!  Funny to, because if my mango tree or any other tree did this, I'd panic, thinking it was rotting!!! I wonder how many garcinia growers panic when they see gamboge?  ;D ;D

What is it good for again?  I could look it up, but would rather hear feed back than just recite something I've read from Julia Morton, or the likes...

Is it used as a medicine and a dye? I forget..but I know certain trees are grown only for the production of gamboge.

Thanks!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / What's your least favorite fruit and why????
« on: January 31, 2012, 08:24:52 PM »
Hello members,

Wondering which fruits you loathe, and why...List as many as you want, but I'm really interested in the single most fruit you despise, and why...thanks to all in advance.

Here goes for me...

I think the fruit I find to dislike the most, (considering only fruits that are offered, and sold at nurseries, or that are regularly eaten by humans)....would have to be....

Surinam Cherry...

Here is why...they fruit abundantly, and grow all around near me (invasive exotic)...the fruits are inviting looking, and appear to be tasty!  Everyone claims that theirs tastes good...no resinous taste.

BUT,

I find that they are a "taste like the smell of a fart " of a fruit.  All of them have a resinous taste I can't get over, no matter how dark they are, or who swears they taste good.  And they reel me in  every single time, seducing me with their looks, tempting old Adam to eat of the fruit that he shant.  ;D ;D

I won't give up, I keep eating them in hopes of one day acquiring a taste or finding one that has none of the taste I hate, and associate with this fruit. ;)

Please go ahead and ventilate some hate >:( on this thread please! ;D

Thanks!

Adam

Any amazingly hard to find fruit species that he should look for in season?

What Garcinia species might he see at a market if any at all? (have the new world species like G. laterifolia made it into cultivation and markets of India yet?   I' sure Oscar will be informed about this quandary! ;) If not he knows a bunch of stuff I don't! and love his post style and content!

Preferably Garcinia, Annona, Sapotaceae, or others of interest?

Thanks in advance!  SEE YA 8)

Hey Members!

I noticed how Oscar of Fruitlovers 8) set up his profile, with his zone and location...if you don't feel comfortable with your location, at least put your zone, so your comments are in context when I (and others of course) read them!!!

I keep thinking some of the members are in FL or CA, and they are OH or NY!!! so their comments or pictures look way off to me when I read comments!!  ???

Thanks for the template Oscar! Sorry to bite your style! :-[ :-[ :-[ ;) 8)

25 gal Mamey with largest leaves I've seen, some up to 24 inches!  I love the look, every asks what it is, and guesses loquat!!

it handled the freeze well!!

Don't think I'll get fruits anytime soon, maybe I trade it to one of you guys way down south?? It should fruit soon, the fruit I got it out of was Pantin, and huge sized seed and fruit! Only one seed.

seems like seedlings always have larger leaves than grafted mamey sapote, or at least the ones i've seen in South FL.

Anyone else think these leaves are just normal??? Grown in 100% sun!!! in a 25 gal?? you'd think leaves might be smaller?
