I guess most clementines are totally zygotic.

"By the way, I’d be interested in getting some varieties from forum members, such as N°82 Citrumelo, Poncirus+, HRS-899A citrandarin, or Ichangquat 6-7-2. Some of Ilya’s selections also seem really interesting, and are very inspiring."

Just ask me when ready to graft and welcome to the forum.

Ilya11,  How soon do your Thomasville seedlings start blooming for their first time?  Also how tall at that point?
I have done it several times, the strongest seedlings managed to flower in three years, they were approximately 2 m tall.

From my experience ichangensis hybrids begin flower on  low lateral branches. Also Thomasvile seedlings are doing this.

At least theoretically,  the inbreeding depression would manifest  less if you  cross F1 with another citrus type ( e.g. Citrange Xgrapefruit or Xmandarin)

Poncirus is quite tolerant to HLB infection, but its grafting is not  changing a lot.

Do you have many snails/slugs? I have seen something similar on my citrumelo two years ago.

sc4001992,
Exactly, zygotic seedlings with trifoliate leaves should be discarded ( at least for the purpose of getting tetraploids  :) )

Skandiberg,
I am not sure that is is easy to produce polyploids with gibberillic acid.
There is another substance that is widely used to this : herbicide oryzalin.

You can increase the number of seeds in satsuma by forced pollination with poncirus. The resulting hybrids can be discarded on their trifoliate appearance. Also, usually each satsuma seed gives at least 3 seedlings.

Winged petioles are quite unusual for lemon seedlings, but pigmented new growth is their characteristic pattern

Actually nobody knows how these alleles will behave under the poncirus genome background.

Nucellar seeds in satsumas are induced by foreign pollen. In Japan many early ripening varieties were produced by pollinating satsumas with poncirus.
They, like tetraploids arise from somatic mutations in nucellus cells.
Poncirus pollen was used in order to be able to discard  the hybrids by leaf morphology.
You can get a corresponding pdf by search with "CITRUS BREEDING AND BUD SELECTION IN JAPAN"  and getting it from Florida Oneline journals. For some reasons it can not be accesed  by a direct link.

If you germinate enough seeds of satsuma, there is quite a big chance to get a spontaneous  tetraploid.

If they were kind enough to take the trouble to answer you, why not to ask for polyembryonic seeds of this tetraploid arising from crosspollinating?

"Moreover, seeds of the tetraploid Satsuma mandarin were polyembryonic."

OK, let's discuss it closer to the February. If you want any of my hybrids, do not hesitate to ask.

Another possibility is that someone else will obtain fruits of these citrumquats faster, growing them in a warmer zone or in a greenhouse. Then I'd be interested in getting the seeds.
Hello Marcin,
It would be a shame to lose  this Maroon surviver.
If you send me its budwood at the end of February, I'll be able to graft it onto the vigorous citrumelo rootstock in my garden in the South of France.
With some luck it would flower in in 2-3 years.

A Meyer X 026 Conestoga seedling has survived 14 degrees F twice and will be rescued at this point. This particular tree is monofoliate and hopefully zygotic.

Does it have fragrant leaves?

This autumn I was also surprised  to find that the fruits that I forgot to harvest last year were still hanging on the tree. They increased in size, lost all the bitterness and were quite sweet and puffy. They survived several nights with -9C last winter.
Potentially a good variety for 9a-8b zones in the regions with cool  summers.

Indeed, they are two different strains, although coming from the same region.
Actually, it is better not to use signs like +, this hinders the search.

Chandler pomelo has a triploid set of chromosomes (that's what makes it "seedless").
Entirely false. Chandler is diploid and give many seeds when cross pollinated with compatible pollen.

I have a plant under this name, it came from one Czech collection.
It is an early navel orange, no evident signs of chimerism, but the skin has a very strange smell, not common in oranges.

My Z82 flowered for the first time this year. It refused to flower for years , the budwood was from Mikkel.

Probably the best citrumelo that I tasted, juicy, early ripening ( beginning of November), some bitterness, but not exceeding, good balance sour/sugar 13°Brix, outside some poncirus smell, but no smell at all in juice, no internal sticky oils.
Interestingly, on Eisenhut nursery description it mentioned that "according to an old list it could be cv. Sacaton R.W. Hudson"

Hello Ilja, do you have a special Poncirus from Voss or just a seedling? I tasted the tree in his garden and it was not good at all.
He also once had a precocious Poncirus, which he also gave to Eisenhut. Perhaps he also sold it as a graft back then.
I called it Voss, because it came from the rootstock of the plant that I bought from Bernhard. Quite resistant, I used its seedling for years for grafting.
Given it  just as a reference of a common, bad tasting PT.
