Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Scion sale/trade
« on: December 08, 2025, 12:57:35 PM »
Yesterday I was eating sabara, pingo, and ruby honey side by side to compare flavors. The sabara and ruby honey taste very similar and the skin thickness is similar too. The pingo de mel has a thinner and less tannic skin making it more like my escarlete or a red, which I prefer. I found my self wondering if my Pingo de mel is mislabeled( got seeds pre covid from JTM but i may have done the mislabeling on my end. For some reason I assumed pingo would take way longer to flower and end up being a darker fruit with thicker skin. If anyone else has a flowering pingo maybe they can chime in. Or even one that's not flowering so that we can compare the leaves and structure shape

Docky- what do you think of the flavor of Pingo de Mel?  Better than Sabara or too similar?

Here are my trees that are in the ground.

This one has been in the ground for two years. It was bigger when I planted it. It got sun burned and under-watered and suffered while I learned. Hopefully I will be able to manage it better this spring.

This one I planted this year. It is grafted.

Wow! Looks like its bouncing back well. My 2 trees lived under shade cloth until 5ft or so. When I removed the shade cloth they died back and suffered for a couple years but eventually recovered. Once they recovered the growth really started to pick up speed. Until then id get just a few flushes a year and id be lucky to not loose a flush to caterpillars. If I sprayed BT a few times through the flush it would make a big difference

I will have a rental car for a couple days while visiting Honolulu. Would love to get my hands on a soursop and any other tropical fruits. Just landed today and have only had the papayas from ABC store, Lol . They don't even have any of the "apple" bananas, love those.
Thanks .
Yup Frankie's nursery is definitely your best bet, China town is hit or miss but has interesting stuff somtimes. If your driving to the north side shoot me a PM. My soursop tree has ripe fruit right now and ill give u one for free. Probly have a few other things I can share as well

Thanks for doing this! Such an impressive collection.

Do you know the latin name for your lemondrop mangosteen? I think I’ve heard the name applied to more than one species

Is your P. Acu Paulista fruiting?
Thank you! Lemondrop mangosteen is garcinia intermedia although there are some very similar looking sp. Which can makes identification confusing for Lemondrop mangosteen. Pretty sure the one I have ( 6 or 7 fruiting plants from the same source ) is garcinia intermedia. My acu Paulista isnt fruiting yet although it has doubled in size in the last 12 months, hopefully soon!

Looks great!   How does the grumichama/minutifolia fruit taste?
Thanks! The grumi/minutifolia tastes similar to both of the other orange eugenia sp I have tried which are pitomba and e. Azeda. The flavor is sort of apricoty, good balance of sweet and sour( unless picked under ripe which is too sour), and a flavor thats hard to describe maybe "spicy" would be the description. Having that said all 3 of those orange color eugenias I've tried are my favorite eugenias I've tasted so far

A few things I wanted to add: small scions is chopstick or smaller, medium scion is chopstick or a bit bigger. Large scions are about as thick as a sharpie pen.
All scions will be wrapped in buddy tape, labeled and arrow pointing from bottom to top of the scion. If you are paying and not trading please make a minimum purchase of $50 not including shipping which will about $12 for a flat rate box. I will do my best to cut scions as long as the flat rate box but some of the smaller ones may be shorter. If all goes as planned I'll be shipping out all packages on Mondays . Scions will all be cut and wrapped on the evening of sunday. Im only accepting 4 orders per week. I get overwhelmed easily so to prevent this ill take orders until they stop coming in but only shipping 4 orders per week on Mondays. Will do my best to ensure freshness of the scions on my end. As orders come in I'll go out and strip any leaves to prep the scions. That way in a week when I cut the scions they should have some tiny growth bumps which I feel like is an ideal grafting stage.  Feel free to message any questions you have, also happy to share any pics upon request

Aloha Zack

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Scion sale/trade
« on: November 27, 2025, 02:17:52 PM »
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Ive been dragging my feet on starting up my scion trade/sale and wanted to stop making excuses. Ill do my best to keep the sale open for a few months. Im updating the list, some things I had to offer are noblonger available and alot of new stuff is available. When I have some extra time e in the next week ill make a list of scions or plants that im looking for and would like to trade. Im always happy to sell scions but prefer to barter! Im going to start offering seeds and will work on completing a list of what I have to offer in the upcoming weeks. Ill keep my seed sales open indefinitely. It seems the most feasible way for me to sell seeds goes as follows: given ill be getting different fruits at different times i will take order reservations in advance without accepting payment. When the fruits are ripe and seeds are ready ill message people who have reservations to accept payment and ship. Minimum purchase amounts for each variety will be $50 not including shipping. The exception to that rule will be if I dont have enough seeds of one variety to offer you equaling $50 then the rule won't apply. Under no circumstances will i ship ripe fruit. Ill do my best to update my seed list as time goes on with pics, flavor descriptions, time of year fruits are available, new varieties fruiting, and anything worth noting. Selling seeds is new to me so it will be a work in progress. Shipping will only be through domestic usps so no international shipping, sorry. Once I harvest seeds ill ship asap in very lightly moistened vermiculite, typically shipping on Mondays.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Wanted to share a couple of pics. My Pingo de mel has been flowering for about a year now and it produces constantly! Seems to be producing pretty nonestop similar to GR2 which is my most productive jabo. The fruits are pretty good size too

More fruits from my eugenia labeled orange grumichama (pretty sure its minutifolia). The fruits are smaller this year than the last 2 years and all the fruits are seedless which is odd because the first 2 years it flowered all the fruits had seeds although only a dozen or so fruits set. This year several hundred set. Kinda bummed there are no seeds to share. Hopefully next year will have this many fruits but be larger and seeded.

Here is a pic of a little grafting project I've did on my large fruiting sabara. All scions were taken from my plants and the varieties I grafted were: oloh de Boi, varigated red, black velvet and varigated sabara, plinia datas, polpa roxa, and zona do mata. Grafted these up a couple of weeks back and not signs of growth yet. I did about 15+ more of these grafts on some smaller sabaras that I have in the front yard, hopefully will have a high percentage of takes.

Good news, the myc. Arborea that I had to stump because my bannana tree smashed it, is growing! I thought it may not survive. I managed to make some scions from the material and grafted it onto my myc. Vexator, hopefully some of those take.

Now i think this is Paulista variegata… more pics of this trees…

The new growth looks beautiful! From the pics I've seen of variegated Paulista, Im pretty sure that's what u have

Just noticed a few flowers on myc. Strigipese. This is its first time flowering, the plant is still pretty small and its only a couple years old. Hopefully this one sets fruit more heavily than myc. Glazioviana

Kinda looks like im getting first flowers on myc. Glazioviana var. "De cruz", but hard to tell. It might just be new growth. Ill find out in a few days, fingers crossed for flowers
Your collection is amazing, congratulations!  ;D
Thank you Luis! Your plinia collection is amazing, and your pictures have me drooling constantly. Keep up the good work!

Loving the new pics!

What's the fruit and taste like on that orange grumi/minutifolia??

It tastes pretty similar to eugenia azeda, really good for a eugenia sp. I only got to try pitomba once but from what I remember the flavor was similar

Just had a seedling pop on this

Docky your yard is an envy to all

They grow really slow the first few years but pick up speed once they start to branch
