I found 'sweet scarlet' grapes at costco recently and they were fantastic.  Small sized compared to usual table grapes.  I'll try these candy snap ones if I see them

Looks great, I am also interested in how it tastes.

Here are my trees that are in the ground.

That top one looks fantastic, I hope you get them to fruiting.

Hah, I love the tree-in-a-trunk.

You expect they will survive this way?  I am shocked with so little roots, but I guess you have experience doing it :)

None of my seeds survived.  I am finding that pre-germinated seeds usually just die rather than representing a desirable head start on growth.

I just got another large crop from this tree, and it is still the same poor taste.  I hacked it down to a small bonsai today.

Is this out of season?  I noticed that my container Orange Sherbet has a panicle blooming now.  I can't remember when my Mallika normally blooms.

I got the Orange Sherbet as a potential replacement, to threaten the Mallika into holding fruit.

I've grown a lot of container citrus and having healthy green leaves drop isn't a problem I remember seeing.  I don't have much advice here other than the usual suggestion to check the container for dry or overly wet areas of the potting medium.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Picking mandarins and kumquats all this week when it is below freezing outside is fun.

Looks great!   How does the grumichama/minutifolia fruit taste?

My e. beaurepaireana is flowering for the first time now
...

After the flower buds sitting unopened for over a month they finally all opened at once today.  I was worried it would result in the unfortunately too common pattern I've seen where a healthy tree flowers for the first time... then the flowers stall and never open... and the whole tree dies back hugely.

My Shasta Gold tree has a nice crop ripening now.  Dense clusters of large fruits.

Most of the purple pearl seeds yangmei seeds from this batch of fruit sprouted and are a few inches tall now!

Meyer lemons will fall on their own at some point, but if I remember correctly once they turn yellow they will hold for a month or two before this happens.  And they'll still be good when when they fall.

I thought citrus tree roots were mostly all in the top foot or so of soil (~30cm)?  I agree 1 meter seems excessive.

Nice to see they are doing well indoors.  Meyer lemons are always so finicky for me

I forget the name of the person, but he said grafting citrus on lemon rootstock produces less sweet fruit.  He said that there are commercial orchards that graft on lemon rootstocks because it will produce larger, juicier fruit but this is at the expense of flavor.  If you want the best flavor and sweetness, graft onto an appropriate rootstock for mandarin or sweet oranges.  He also mentioned that using interstocks of sweet varieties does not matter, the rootstock is the determining factor in the tree producing the sweetest fruit.

Janet

I have read this about rough lemon specifically, but not sure if it applies to all lemons.

The jamun, black sapote, and guava all started suffering when temps held at 27F (-3C) for a few hours, twice in a week.  Not sure at what temperature the trunk and roots will die.

I've posted this one previously but it's recently got a pretty good head of hair. I've got around 4-5 M. Cuspidata from the same batch of seeds. This one in particular has much smaller leaves, about half the size, of the other plants and has been growing much more vigorously:

Any idea how long these myrciarias take to flower?  I have a few about this size now.

Yeah I just scraped all the scales off and applied some insecticide.  Will keep an eye one it...

Here's a good view of an upturned one.  It does look like sap but...

That clear/white worm looking thing is ALIVE.

I see it crawling around on the butterfly blob
