Also, if more than one person gets the exact number, you will all win.

2
Correct, only your first guess counts. Please don't guess more than once since someone else may have wanted to guess that number.

3
No one guessed the exact number yet.

Daniel, I don't grow it but you might be right. I have a few seedling canistel that grows very slow so I may never get any fruits, when I tried to graft some good varieties my grafts all failed. So I may need to replace the canistel with a nice size lucuma. I have a friend nearby who has a large lucuma tree that fruits so if it tastes as good as the one I tasted from CSUF then I may just graft his variety on the tree.

Now, to find someone who has a large lucuma tree that they want to get rid of so I can go dig it out and planted in my yard. If I find a good size tree, I will post my finding.

7
Brad, they also make good rootstock for grafting, strong seedlings.

yup, that is what it is. The large tree is next to the canistel, so I got the name mixed up. It tasted good.

Look at the size of this Roy pomelo.

Can anyone ID this variety from the photos I took. I was on the ground at the CSUF arboretum (Fullerton) and they have maybe 3 trees near where this fruit was found.

Do you consider this one a dry type, it tasted good, but to me it seems more dry than moist.

Ok, since I have one weird pomelo variety that likes to have tons of seeds, I thought I will do a contest for all the members who have purchased/traded/sold things to me.

No other people need to guess, this is only for those I have sold items, traded items, or purchased items.

I love the Pomelo fruits, so I have most of the good tasting pomelos. Some pomelos seems to have more seeds in them than others. For example the Reinking has a lot of seeds, maybe 20-30 seeds in one fruit. But I have a seedling pomelo tree which gives good tasting fruits, I called it Roy pomelo.

The seeds in this Roy pomelo have the most I have ever seen. Check out the number of seeds there was in just 2 fruits I cut open and ate.

Here's the photos, guess how many total seeds in the last photo with the seeds drying on the paper towel.

You might be able to count most of the seeds in the photo.

Yup, probably true since my Sumo (some variety) also gets seeds in most of the fruits on one graft from UCR. I do have more than 80+ citrus varieties grafted on my trees.

hardyvermont, from my experience, I must agree with your theory. I did grow out a bad tasting Chinese pomelo fruit seeds and once it got growing, I put it in the ground. Once it was in the ground it started to grow really fast and tall. I just ignored it for 7 yrs, always cutting any side branches that were getting to wide and in my way. One day I noticed it had one fruit that year (7-8 yr old) and the seedling tree was taller than my house so maybe 12-15 ft tall. I moved the tree away from my house and planted it in my yard to grow larger, now that tree gives me large fruits every year and the seedling fruits (Roy pomelo) tastes much better than the parent fruit.

Does anyone know why some citrus fruits have so many seeds?

I grow many different citrus varieties, most of my trees all have 5-30 different varieties grafted on the branches of one tree.

I will count the number of seeds when they dry up, just washed the seeds tonight.

Just to follow up on the Sumo seeds. I mentioned this in some other posts before, but of my 3 accessions from UCR budwood that I have purchased and grafted, I get seeds in one of the three regularly.

I just started picking some ripe fruits since we have been getting strong Santa Ana winds lately. No smoke/fire in my town, but I did pick some sumo fruits from my grafted branch that gives seeds in each fruit, and they do have many seeds again. I'll post some photos of the two accessions, one rarely has any seeds, and the other one always has seeds.
