finger lime x Genoa lemon

The finger lime isn't really a lime like any other. Keep in mind that every lime and lemon are hybrids of C. medica and another Asian citrus fruit. It's called a lime not because of a relationship, but because it's acidic. But it doesn't have that "lemony" smell from Citrus medica. That's why I've always wondered what would happen if we gave it that characteristic smell? Also, I've seen hybrids with lime, with calamondin, with rampurg... but they've never used a lemon. 🍋 The lemon has a more elongated shape, with a nipple, like the citrus caviar. So wouldn't those characteristics combine well? And at the same time, it would give it genes that would contribute to improving size. So, here I have my first experience. I have two more plants. It was difficult, but at least one is doing well. It seems that this is difficult.  For the next challenge, it would be good to cross it directly with Citrus Médica 😁 so it would have something in common with the rest of the limes and lemons, and not just the name.

Based on what I've seen on the many finger lime hybrids from e.g. herbalistics, the finger lime hybrid F1s are invariably not much different than normal finger limes. Maybe a different colour, maybe somewhat bigger fruit, but generally still very clearly a finger lime. E.g. they're always very acidic (not sweet), thin and hard to peel, and generally similar flavour to standard finger lime. I think F2s and above would be required for actually interesting hybrids to be formed (e.g. sweet flesh, easy peel, stronger flavours).

In my hybrids, meaning those that haven't flowered yet, I see that they look more like finger limes, with miniature leaves, thin stems, and thorns. As for the fruit, it depends on what you're looking for. Hervalistic already has many hybrids with different Australian citrus fruits, which is interesting, but I mainly use Ellendale Tango as parents. I'm not sure what your goal was, but I used lemon since I want something acidic. However, if I wanted to make a sweet cross, I'd definitely use other relatives of the finger lime, perhaps Microcitrus inodora (but I don't have any) or Clymenia poliandra. It can also produce two types of pulp: Faustrime has juice vesicles that come out, like caviar, and Bloodlime juice comes out if you squeeze it. I don't know; more vesicles come out, so I'd like either of them for hybrids with lemon.

I would like a hybrid. Even though its basically a finger lime it might have a little better fruit which makes it better than a pure finger lime. I would rather cross it with a meyer lemon which is sweeter. Then maybe a key lime or something second generation cross. Pure lemon is too bitter to eat and not cold tolerant.

Yes, my goal was to cross it to produce a tangy fruit. But I also have Bloodlime x Meyer hybrids. I'll see if this year I can cross Caviar directly with Meyer.

I don't know if it was understood that I made that Bloodlime x Meyer cross, which is why it's not listed anywhere. It's probably just a young plant, only 1 year old. I'll look at it and upload photos later.
