Lemon for grafting
« on: December 29, 2025, 08:20:00 PM »
About a decade ago, my wife insisted we grow a Meyer lemon so we bought a dwarf tree and put it in the ground. It’s about 4 feet tall and gives us 40+ lemons a year. Out of the blue last weekend she said I didn’t want a Meyer I wanted a regular lemon?!?! So my question is what are some good “normal“ tasting lemons that I can graft onto this tree? Is now an OK time to graft? And finally, does anybody have scions for sale?

Lisbon and Eureka are the grocery store lemons and are both very good and widely available in nurseries.   You can probably find them locally.  Buying $40 tree locally and cutting scion from that seems like a good approach to me.

I'm not sure when a good time to graft in CA is.

Just order the scions from UCR/CCPP (disease free), and then graft onto your Meyer lemon tree.

The scions are $5each, plus $10 FedEx shipping. So buy 3-5 scions of lemons. I like the Lison (seedless) and the Eureka (seedles), you can order both on CCPP website.

No one in CA can sell you citrus scions, only CCPP certified disease-free nursery or UCR.
