Fertilizer is still fertilizer regardless what part of the world you live.  Theres no such thing as a location specific fertilizer, thats bullshit.  Maybe some are only available in certain areas but its going to do the same thing wherever its used.

You are blessed with excellent soil. Ask a commercial grower if they do a soil test before planting.

The 2nd year I lived here my veggies grew horribly so I did a soil test. My cal/mag/K ratios were all off and I was lacking micros. Now I only add in what I need to gradually balance it. This year for example I finally have enough calcium and boron but am still deficient in zinc and manganese. Dumping miracle gro on the veggie garden wouldn't have solved a thing.

Feijoa is a slow grower that wouldn't require much pruning to keep it under 1m. It could also be trimmed as a hedge.

I would be wary to grow pineapple in a front yard due to risk of theft.

Yeah I got a bit of hail too near the coast. Wasn't a very cold night though, low of 48. Very windy, my passion fruit trellis broke because I had been putting off pruning it till the last fruits ripened, oops.

I tried all three golds at the south coast station u-pick a couple years back.  I 100% preferred the Shasta gold so that's the only tree I bought.  I have two fruit on my tree now but I might wait a few more weeks to pick - in general my fruit ripens later then the rest of SD.

Thanks for listening to me talk, I know it was lengthy. As far as stone fruit is concerned, I think people will have the best chance of long term success in central Florida with plums on native plum rootstock. Unfortunately, this combination is not offered much because most plums in local nurseries are on the "recommended" peach rootstock (because it makes larger fruit). Eventually, the peach rootstock dies out from under the plum. However, I have seen native plums here that are over 100 years old--Peach Tree Short Life obviously was not a problem for them.

Thanks for starting this thread Shane.  I am considering a move too.. my first thought was to look around Vero Beach. Someplace rural though, I want livestock.

Is this different algae than we had earlier this year in SD? It didn't affect me but one of my friends couldn't make the long walk from Cardiff to the campground.

Pindo palm does stay short, but it has a wide trunk and wingspan, in case that is important.  Excellent fruit however.

I have been unsuccessful using P. edulis to pollinate P. alata, but I've only tried about a half dozen flowers.
