Hey everybody!
I live in the WV panhandle and live in a duplex. The lower level of the duplex was never finished and for some reason they didn't install heating in the downstairs. However, the downstairs is the only area uncarpeted (linoleum floors) so I use a room downstairs as my plant room. Over the winter, it can get down into the 50's downstairs, which is not ideal for teopicals.
Last year, I used a space heater that came with the house to heat it through winter and it doubled my electric bill to keep the one room above 65 degrees. Awful. My house is electric, so a gas stove wouldn't be feasible, even though I know they're affordable. I've considered getting a pellet stove but I would want one that would work if the power went out, because that happens here often. I've only found one pellet stove that works without electricity and it's very expensive.
Does anyone have suggestions for cheap ways to heat this area, affordable efficient space heaters, etc?

IF the area is not tight, check out propane ice house heaters. They are made for ice fishing cabins, and are portable. But you can't use them in tight installations, because they are unvented.
My other thought would be soil heating cables that you put under the pots. Those only draw a few amps.

Grow lights would help increase temperature. An indoor space heater would work.
