Title: Collins Poncirus processing
Post by: kumin on October 31, 2021, 05:11:34 AM
I've just juiced a batch of Poncirus fruits from a tree sourced from Major Collins about 25 years ago. His comment was that the fruit were larger and had a better pulp to seed ratio than common Poncirus.

So what exactly will you be doing with this juice?

I'm leaning towards a key lime substitute. May add some actual lime juice if needed.

Is grafting wood available?  Or seeds?  Could be useful in breeding.

My poncirus fruits are large and juice filled like yours. I squeeze the juice out, boil it, settle out the bitter oils in fridge overnight, siphon off the juice leaving oil behind, and  put juice up in freezer in cup-size containers, and take out one container a week or so and mix it with water in a orange juice carafe and sweeten to taste with stevia. It makes a strong lemonade that I drink every morning out of a small orange juice glass.
