I have 2 fairly large Kishu in my back yard. They are at the top of my list for good fruit.

Lime sulphur is an insecticide miteicide and fungicide all in one. There is a company Pennsylvania that still makes it. Need to be used when the temp is below 85 degrees F.

4
I have several satsumas plus Dekopon(Sumo). Kishu is small but very productive and great flavor.Xie Shan satsuma is also great.

5
Kishyu is small but great.

I have minor leaf miner damage already this year. Normally they do not attack until July. We had a real mild winter. The small white moths are in the lawn and fly when the grass is mowed.

11
Normally the young leaves will be a much lighter green color. They should darken with age.

12
Normally there are 2 workers from Texas A&M at Weslaco Tx that makes rounds throughout the state looking for Psyllids. So far none has been in our area but have been found n 3 counties about 90 miles West.

13
Dekopon and Sumo are the same. Usually cost between 2 and 3 bucks each. They are both excellent.

The small leaf miner moth is now active. As soon as my trees are through blooming I plan on spraying ever 2 to 3 weeks. After they are in the tissue of the leaf they cannot be controlled. I am in SE Texas. Last winter was very mild, this is the earliest that I have seen them.

I have seen several quite large Meiwa kumquats on their own root. They were very thorny and were good producers.

It has been my experience the first few years satsumas bear the quality is not too good. They progressively get better as they age. A friend last fall gave me a few from an old tree that were excellent. The tree actually bore over 1000 fruit last season. Have recently paced 2 buds into my Silverhill satsuma from that tree.

23
Personally I would plant as Kishu, iI do not like kumquats.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: which fert?
« on: March 30, 2015, 08:03:58 PM »
I use at 15-5-10 with the trace elements. My trees are in the ground, they are fertilized about 3 times a year, middle of Feb., about mothers day and again fathers day. The fertilizer is a grass fertilizer. This is Monte Nesbitt recommendation. He is a fruit specialist at Texas A&M. Has worked well for e the last couple of years.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Growing Trees Without Staking

Most large nurseries grow a single trunk tree that is staked. They push them so they have to be staked.
