Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Leaf Burn on my new Mulberry Grafts
« on: May 23, 2022, 10:37:01 AM »
Where is the graft?
I remove the leaves from the scions when I graft.
I wrap the scions with parafilm and if the graft takes it pushes new leaves.

Very impressed. Most seeds were sprouted and some of the best scions Iíve ever received!

thanks!

I was talking to a fertilizer company ( Diamond R) and they said fertilizer is only
good for one season? It may not be a great idea to stock pile it?
I am equally shocked whenever I buy anything. Diamond R 8-4-8
was $12.99 for 50lbs a couple years ago and they had a slight increase
and back then they said it was their first price increase ever
Now it's 25.99 for the same bag. Meanwhile our government
says inflation is 8% now. I wish

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Myrciaria Guaquiea

Let us know how it compares to yellow.
I've been looking for a tree as well
I ate the first guaquiea yesterday.
My yellow has never fruited so I can't compare.
It tasted like a lemondrop candy.
It had one smaller seed
I can't wait to get a handful to sample.

My seeds came a very long way and had all germinated by the time they arrived. I have always had excellent interactions with you. Thank you so much!
Good Luck

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: How to prune newly grafted Annona?
« on: April 27, 2022, 06:19:08 PM »
I would not remove the lower branch now. If the upper branch needs to straighten
more I would put a stake in and make the upper branch grow straight up and
become the center leader, but right now it looks like it is doing it on it's own?
For now the only branches I would remove would be anything below the graft line

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Horticultural Molasses
« on: April 25, 2022, 10:11:14 AM »
I used it and still do. I got it from the feedstore and it wasn't
expensive. That probably has changed?
I used it mainly when I made up some fish emulsion.
I seem to be adding or trying different additives or fertlizer
all the time and didn't notice big results. I used the molasses
in foliar spray and root drench also.

Best beginner mulberry on that list? Do any of them need cross pollination etc? Iíve never grown on and I know they can grown from cuttings, any recommendations?

The white shatoot is very hard to root from cuttings
The Black pak is also tough to root

The other types I have are fairly easy to root.
The Tice and Shangri La are large trees 20' x 20'
The Thai dwarf and Dwarf everbearing are smaller trees

Lisa atemoya is one of my favorites
Also my sugarlata seedling is a winner
Both of my trees fruit heavy without hand pollination

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Florida Hakip Lychee leaf growth
« on: April 16, 2022, 12:46:32 PM »
I have a Hakip I got from Hopkins in Florida and it does not have the
new red growth. Several people insist the Hakip is the same as Sweetheart?
I am trying to grow both trees but my sweetheart got hit by the cold and
is still dying off? Not sure if it will make it yet

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Avocado double cleft graft success!

If it is flowers I would cut them off and let the plant focus all it's
energy on leaves

I had a 7 gallon Super Hass avocado I planted in a spot in my yard a couple
years ago that did nothing. It actually died back a little. I gave up and dug it up a
month ago and put it in a 7 gallon pot. Now it's flushing new growth constantly?

What's your thoughts on Dasyblasta's taste? Comparable to Surinam cherry, Zill's dark?
The dasyblasta is totally different tasting than Suriname cherry.
It has a spicy taste no resinous taste at all. Everyone who has tried
it says WOW!
