I decided to cut down my two large adult loquat trees, 30yrs old. I wanted to share these loquat varieties with the forum members since I will not be selling these any longer after I cut the trees down.

The Vista White, gives excellent tasting fruits, and the KT1-Kosmic, most productive fruiting tree I have which also has very good tasting fruits (white/yellow flesh)...

Here's some photos of my tree with fruits:..

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Seedless Loquat ???
« on: April 09, 2022, 04:58:02 PM »
Anyone growing seedless loquats?

I found some very small fruits on a few branches on one of my trees. It was the smallest loquat fruit I have seen (1/2" size). It turns out these fruits have super small seeds (1/4") or no seeds in the fruits. I'm not sure if it will stay seedless (or almost seedless) next season but wondering if anyone else has seen fruits with no seeds..

UPDATE:
SEE MY POST ON PAGE 3, 5/1/22 FOR LATEST INFO

==========================================================

This is my way to "pay it forward" to the Loquat lovers out there.

This is for those who do not have any Peluche to get a Free cutting to graft onto their tree.

This loquat cutting will be from my grafted tree that is a proven Peluche with the large orange flesh fruits. The origin of this Peluche source is Adam (Flying Fox Fruits). My tree has fruited for 2 years, currently has many large green fruits on them now. When the fruits ripen, I will post some photos and follow up on the taste comparison to my other varieties. Last year I gave it a taste rating of 8-9 out of 10 (best). I do not taste any funny taste, or mushy texture that a few members here have stated, maybe they have a problem with their rootstock? If there is any flavor/taste that is negative, I will mention it on my review this season.

Here's the free contest rules:  IF YOU WON A PREVIOUSLY PELUCHE OR HAVE A PELUCHE TREE THEN DO NOT ENTER THIS CONTEST, LET SOMEONE ELSE WIN:

I will generate the lucky number using a random number generator this time. I will check this post once a day and update if anyone has won. The first person on this post to guess the lucky number is the winner.

GOOD LUCK

1. Only open to forum members that have been a member for at least 1 year.
2. For those who live in contiguous (lower 48 states) USA.
3. You will need to pay for handling/shipping of $10, USPS priority mail, small box.
4. Cutting will be 1/4"-3/8" hardened wood. Tree is a vigorous grower.
5. Contest will go on until some lucky person guesses the correct answer.
6. You must post your guess here, do not send me a PM.

7. Pick a number in the range of 1-150, only two guesses per member.

Just took a few more new photos yesterday of the Peluche loquat grafts on my tree:

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Best Tasting Loquats For 2022 Season
« on: April 05, 2022, 12:46:10 AM »
Does anyone have suggestions for the best tasting loquats they have eaten in 2022..

It would be good to hear from loquat growers which loquat variety they grow that was their best tasting for 2022 season. It will be another few months before all the fruits are ripe for evaluation so as you eat the fruits, post photos of your best tasting ones and update as other varieties ripen on your trees.

Please include the following information when you post so it will make it easy for readers to get the details below:

1. Mention your location (country, state) so others who live in similar areas would know that your favorite tasting loquat grows well in that specific location.

2. If you can take a few photos to post of your best tasting fruit as they ripen, so you can continue to update your best tasting (if they do not ripen at the same time) until all your varieties are ripe and done for this season.

3. Describe why you think it tastes so great, it would be good information for others that may not have eaten that variety. Some people like the very sweet fruits while others like the sweet with some tartness (personal preference of course).

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Contest: Largest Loquat Fruit for 2022
« on: April 02, 2022, 05:47:03 AM »
Since there are many loquat lovers who grow many named varieties and some nice seedling trees with large fruits (weight & size), we should post the fruit photo (taken by you in 2022) and post it here.

It would be interesting to see if the Peluche is the eventual winner or if there is some other variety with a larger fruit. You can thin your fruits or give it any special food to get it to have large fruits.

Contest Rules:
1. Photo must be taken of the fruit in 2022.
2. The largest fruit (single fruit) must be shown weighed & measured, take a photo for proof.
3. Loquat fruit can be green, yellow, or orange (any stage of ripeness).
4. Contest will start today and end by July 31, 2022..

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Search for the Best Tasting Mulberry ???
« on: March 25, 2022, 06:58:15 PM »
Ok, I have most of the mulberry varieties (23) that people say tastes good - excellent, and I don't plan to add any more varieties..

I would like to hear which ones you have tasted that is the best tasting to you. I do not plan to add any more varieties since I think I have all that I need to evaluate this, probably will now start getting rid of the ones that are average or not good tasting. I'm planning to keep only two in ground trees and get rid of the rest. I'm now thinking it would be good to find a few good dwarfing rootstocks so when I have it in pots, it will stay small-medium size and not have the roots grow out of the bottom of the pot and take over the yard again. I have two dwarfing rootstock that shows promise so far.

I have been eating many of the different varieties I have grafted on my 7 in ground mulberry trees and for me, I must say the White Pakistan/Australian Green is the number 1 sweetest of all mulberries.

Here's a few photos of the fruits I picked yesterday. I will post more photos later tonight or tomorrow showing how/when you should pick the fruits on the tree so that it is at the best flavor.

If you pick it at the right time when it turns yellow/white, it is by far, the sweetest mulberry you will ever taste. It also does have the melon smell when ripe. The only negative on this variety is that the fruit will not hold long on the tree when it gets ripe so if you don't pick it within 1-2 days, it will fall off the branch.

Many people that have not really waited for the correct time (fully ripe) mentions it has a grass smell or taste, that is not the case if you follow my instructions to determine that it is fully ripe. It just tastes like all honey/sugar, you won't taste another fruit like it.

 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So, I would like to hear which ones you have tasted that is the best tasting to you.
If you have any photos of the ripe fruits that would give everyone more information on what the fruits look like.
As my mulbery fruits ripen, I will try to take photos and post here as additional info for those who have not grown some of these other varieties. If my Best Tasting changes as I eat these mulberries I will update it here.

I will be cutting back many of the Black Pakistan mulberry branches in April. So this will be an advance Free Giveaway list I'm starting now.

My Black Pakistan mulberry trees are growing well, I have many adult trees. I will be digging up a few soon in April so I should have many cuttings to give away. The Black Pakistan fruits are long, big, and tasty. It does seem to not stain at all when I compare it to the fruits of Shangri-La, Thai Dwarf, Tice, and many of the nigras. You will like the taste of the fruit, high fruit production. The only drawback is that the fruits do not hang many days after they are ripe so you will need to pick them as they turn dark black or any wind will knock them down. All my neighbors like the fruits, kids love to pick them. Thai Dwarf may be one of the other varieties that has more fruits than the Black Pakistan, but the Black Pakistan has much more taste so you need to have one. It's one of my top 3 in fruit taste.

This is my way to "pay it forward" to the mulberry lovers out there.

1. Only open to forum members that have been a member for at least 1 year. If you don't qualify, I will not reply.
2. For those who live in contiguous (lower 48 states) USA.
3. You will need to pay for handling/shipping of $10, USPS priority mail, small box.
4. Cutting will be 1/4"-1/2" hardened wood. You will receive 5 cuttings minimum.
5. If you're interested, send me a PM to make the payment for the shipping & handling cost.
6. First 20 people that make the payment will be guaranteed to receive the free cuttings. If I have more cuttings after filling the 20 members orders, then I may send out more if I have time. If this happens, I will update this post to indicate this.
7. Please don't ask me about other varieties. If you ask me for other varieties, then you will be disqualified for these Free cuttings.
8. I will not be selling any mulberry cuttings this season, too busy with other things to do.
9. Probably will be shipping cuttings in second or third week of April.
10. Note: You can start sending me your PM, but I will not respond to them until next week. I will enter your request in the sequence I received your PM, and if you make the $10 shipping payment after I give you the info, then I will confirm your number/place in the Free Cuttings List for 20 members.
10a. Don't reply on this post and think you are on my list, only PMs will count for priory on the list.

THIS OFFER IS NOW CLOSED

My Red Himalayan mulberry grafted trees are growing well. These scionwood are from Brad (spaugh). He said last year he likes these Red mulberry better than the Black or White pakistan. My trees have many green fruits now, I hope the fruits stay on the branches until full ripeness so I can taste it this year. Previous years the fruits were skinny and fell off before getting ripe.

Now that I know which branches are still holding fruits, I can trim back some of my other branches with no fruits.
This is my way to "pay it forward" to the mulberry lovers out there.

1. Only open to forum members that have been a member for at least 1 year.
2. For those who live in contiguous (lower 48 states) USA.
3. You will need to pay for handling/shipping of $10, USPS priority mail, small box.

How about everyone posting their best loquat photos. Take any photo of your loquat tree with fruits or just the fruits.

1. Post your photo, from now until July 2022. The photo must be one that you took in 2022.
2. Best looking photo wins - judging by most votes at the end of contest date, July 31, 2022.
3. Provide the variety name, or if seedling fruit, indicate that.
4. Contest ends in July when most loquat fruits should have ripened at least once.
5. No limit to number of entry. Just indicate your entry number (sequential order in post).
6. I will provide a prize if you want one (motivation for you to post). A selection of a loquat from my collection.

Here's the first entry below;

1) Loquat, Graham_Harding (seedling tree).
- Fruit has white flesh, medium to large fruits
- Sweet taste, when ripe no acid/tart, just nice a sweet.
- Production: low quantity of fruits, maybe the reason the fruits are med-large size.
- Ripens in Feb-Mar

Ok, since there seems to be some interest in free loquat cuttings, I will do another free giveaway.
This loquat is a seedling tree I grew (have 21 varieties), and it is rare since I will not be selling this cutting on here again. This one to me is special, more than the Peluche. The flesh is white, firm, sweet tasting. It is not as sweet as Vista White, but flavor is very good. Fruit seems to hang on the tree longer after ripening, doesn't bruise as easily as Vista White, size is medium, long shape, I rate this one 8/9 out of 10 being best. Don't ask me to sell you any, not going to happen.

Here's the free contest rules:

6. Each member gets only one guess. Pick a number from 1-100, if you guess the correct number, I will reply here and the contest is over.

Good Luck

Starts Now. You must post your guess here, don't send me any messages with your guess.

Ok, since I saw Kevin giving away some of his mulberry cuttings, I thought I will donate one good Peluche cutting from my tree that has the large fruits I posted before. Since eveyone seemed to have a good time, let's do it one more time.

Here's the free contest rules:
1. Only open to forum members that have been a member for at least 1 year.
2. For those who live in contiguous (lower 48 states) USA.
3. You will need to pay for handling/shipping of $10, USPS priority mail box.
4. Cutting will be 1/4"-3/8" hardened wood.
5. Contest will go on until some lucky person guesses the correct answer.

6. Each member gets only one guess. Pick a number from 1-100, if you guess the correct number, I will reply here and the contest is over.
