Tropical Fruit Discussion / Avocado double cleft graft success!
« on: April 11, 2022, 06:06:07 PM »
Looks like both the Holiday and the Nabal are pushing from this young Hass seedling.

I also think the Holiday is sending up flower nodes, what do you think? Should I let them grow out, any advice?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Avocado Graft Health
« on: February 28, 2022, 08:32:20 PM »
Hello, wondering if anyone had any advice for care or could diagnose the status of my double cleft graft experiment:

- this is a Nabal and Hass double graft
- located in bay area, (hasnt been that cold but I keep it indoors anyways)
- root stock in 30 gallon cloth pot (not super well draining soil, but I try not to overwater it and give it a hydrogen peroxide solution once in awhile to fight off root rot)
- grafted on January 15, along with a few other T and Chip bud experiments lower on trunk (I dont think any took)
- removed plastic bag, plastic tape around graft and rubber band today, February 28

The Hass scion had some buds that started growing, you can see from the photos the slight progress. But I noticed the leaves started turning brown and dropping off. I also saw some dark/black mold growing on the Nabal scion. I was wondering if maybe the bag was getting too moist inside, so I just removed it to inspect, but not sure if I should re-seal it or just leave it open. I was wondering if it would help to give it a mild diluted hydrogren peroxide spray to treat the mold spots?

Note: I did attempt to give it a little avocado/citrus fertilizer about 2 weeks ago. It was labelled 5-2-6, I suspect that might have been an issue, any thoughts?

Thanks so much for any advice or tips!

PS the bushy growth next to this graft was a successful Zutano chip bud graft about a year ago. That one seems to have no problem thriving, although some leave did start burning at the tips, but still healthy!

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Looking for Avocado Scions
« on: November 04, 2021, 11:25:46 AM »
In search of any type of avocado scions, A or B, preferably delicious in the future, to start a multigraft on my 5 year old Hass rootstock. I'll cover shipping!

I just did my first grafting with mature Hass and Zutano. Out of 6 attempts, 1 took and I believe it was the Zutano. Looking a little bare right now, this branch needs some company.

I read Fall and Spring are best for grafting, so hoping to try now and possibly get feelers for availability in Spring. Let me know if you may have scions at a later date too.

thank you!
