Nobody wants to hear the negative possibilities but that doesn't make them any less true or possible. These days a lot people have big dreams and little actual self discipline and drive to make things work. On the flip side there's plenty of people who do though and there's tons of examples of thriving food forest systems and happy folks running them. I dream of such endeavors  myself but I'm not sure I could do it. I attempt to farm 3 acres and run a small nursery and do pretty well but it's always hard to keep up with that. Also with all the comforts of modern society all around me. I still have to work part time to make sure my family eats and bills get paid. May not have to much longer but that's a hard won reality. We do grow substantial amounts of our own veggies and also raise lots of animals we eat. 100% meat needs met but that includes lots of fishing and deer hunting. However we butcher lots of chicken and ducks and hopefully rabbits. Produce wise we grow a lot but until I have large reliable fruit harvests of a variety of species and expand into more veggies as new gardens are put in I still buys lots of store produce. My small thing going on is plenty of work as it is and I struggle to keep up. I'm not in a foreign country and truly needing to feed my family entirely from my own work. That's a daunting task here in the states. Much harder elsewhere I'd figure in most cases except the possibilities of limitless all year fruit and vegetable growing a place like Central America offers. I'd try it and if I had the cash I'd entertain the idea of buying such a place as the farm offered here. However I know I'd not have an easy time doing the full blown homestead off grid kinda thing but I may or may not enjoy it. Would have to see how it went. I'd  be happy with life either way but but there's a difference between happy and actually happy in every way.

Thanks to all who have bought seeds! Still bunches available though.

Have tubers available but this species goes dormant around now.

7
Cuban oregano high in thymol and olive leaf extract I took during it too.

A guy I know was hospitalized briefly with it. They sent him home and his cousin is a veterinarian and gave him a dose of ivermectin and it cleared right up within a day. He wasn't sure if he just was already getting over it or not but it seemingly helped. Worth having on hand if you are really getting beat up by it.

As a full blown herbalist kinda guy I wouldn't take it myself unless I felt I was facing death. The few days I thought that when I was going through it I didn't have access to try it or I might have. Should of went to the hospital and figure most people would of in that condition. However in my view I'm more afraid of going there than dying lol. Not that it's a big deal but I've never gone to a hospital for my own issues before. I'm just on the extreme end of self care only.  Very willing to die over modern help in most cases. Think there's only a couple reasons I might actually go there. Venomous snake bites or mangled in a car accident etc. Stuff I definitely would surely die from if I didn't. I'm definitely on the extreme end of self sufficient for everything though. Wouldn't recommend others do what I would though obviously. I've got nuts for a reason lol. However was scared shitless the day I couldn't breathe kicked in. Gasping for air for 3 days.

Hope you get through it all good!

I had the covid about 6 months ago. It was pretty terrible and I thought I might die at one point. Beat it using nothing but herbal remedies. Elderberry syrup, Elderberry flower tincture, chaga, ginger, turmeric, honey fermented garlic, various other herbs from mints to catnip, etc. Multiple times a day dosing with everything and almost non stop herbal teas. Crazy  array of symptoms and stages. Unlike anything I ever had before. But here I sit and defeated the shit without any medical attention.

Looking for this too. Once had it and it's a really cool and tasty perennial tea plant. Know ECHO global farms sells them but I'm super far away from them now.

Anyone have small rooted plants or seedlings of true green/black tea(camellia sinensis)?

Received nice healthy cuttings! Very generous giveaway. Thanks  much Kevin!

Other than starting from seed what's the best way to propagate Suriname cherry and star cherry? Will they root well from standard cuttings or best to air layer? Have good quality Suriname cherry. Dark and really good. Would like to propagate it this year. Two seedling bushes both good quality fruit and the only two around so seeds should make good fruit too. Flowers on them right now.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Your 2021 Rainfall totals

In my immediate area believe it or not we had nearly 8-9ft of rain. Last time that happened  here was like 25 years ago. The back third of my land was solid water for 3 or better months straight. Killed a huge long standing chickasaw plum in the yard that I had grafted many improved varieties onto earlier that season...go figure. I was successful to on like 85% of the grafts.

Happy new year!

I've read that most of these varieties cannot take the cold they are rated for until like 5" diameter at the trunk. Seems reasonable  to assume that is true. The seedlings I currently  have which are bacon hybrids and Stewart lineage don't seem to mind near 30F. They are up under an overhang of a porch though. They do have that anise smell to the crushed leaves. One tree I have is from an unknown random tree and the leaves look like a green skinned type with no anise smell and it seems just as hardy as the others. I'm gonna graft that one but it's interesting to note.

What's the recommended grafting method for avocado? Some of my seedlings are still like under 1/2" diameter but some are significantly thick. If I were to top them and use a cleft or whip and tongue would it possibly kill the rootstock? I F'd up a loquat tree bad with cleft grafts that failed and nearly  killed the whole tree. It was a fair sized tree too with lots of branches due to hurricane damage and regrowth. I figure I should have side veneer grafted instead and allowed them to definitely take before cutting of the original tips. Should I try to side veneer graft these avocado is what I'm getting at?

I have cuttings my bush tree needs a trimming.

I guess add a few cuttings to our current trade negotiations.

Cannot find a definitive cold hardiness for Duke but saw something  that suggested the low 20s. Is that correct?

Here's some I would like:

Del Rio (Pryor) sometimes also sold as Fantastic  but supposedly  there are two different cultivars too
Mexicola Grande
Opal(Lila)
Wilma(Brazos Belle)
Joey
May
Poncho/Pancho
Gloria
Martin
U-la-la

I saw jabo45's thread looking for scions and wanted not to hijack his thread. I need to find the cold hardiest varieties such as Joey and Fantastic. Have several seedlings to graft. They are bacon hybrids from Kaz, Jonah, or spaugh(one of them anyways) and some Stewart I think from spaugh. If I can't find  what I'm looking for I guess I'll  just keep letting  these grow. Be cool to see what they end up producing but not wanting to wait. Wasn't acquainted to  grafting when I started them but now I am so might as well speed the process of fruiting. Maybe I'll  let a Stewart avo seedling just grow but idk.

It usually only gets to the high 20s here but once every decade or so might hit the mid teens. Want my trees to handle those years preferably with minimal damage.  Fantastic avo is the one I want most. Hear Joey isn't that great but I'm not picky and any avocado is better than none. Know there's others out there that are nearly as hardy as Fantastic but any hardy to the mid 20s or lower will be good.

Looking to put this out there now so I can have arrangements  made for spring in advance. Know they are out there but hard to find. Had a fantastic tree at one point but root rot got it one rainy winter. What can you do.

Anyone out there with any cold hardy avocado hit me up!
