P.S. I got some flavor grenade pluots at Ranch 99 on friday. Loved them! Sweet and very crisp/crunchy. Like a plum flavored apple. DWN says they're probably low chill as well.

As i understand it there are no graft incompatibilities among avocadoes, though i have heard anecdotally that some varieties are more difficult than others. A and B differ in whether the flowers open in morning or afternoon. They are graft compatible and are often grafted to increase production. Doing the same thing. Ive read that its common practice in at least one country. I plan to cull to a male and female when they flower flowerleaving two growing close together. For what its worth home depot is selling them in triplets.

I'm actually using the stuff that drips to the bottom of the worm compost stack. Taking it out the spigot. It looked pretty concentrated. I diluted it about 10-fold and have my first patient about 2 cups.

My ataulfos have light green leaves. My kents have dark. If ypu crossed an ataulfo w kent or similar would you het one dark and the rest ligjt?

I've only seen Manila so far.

The San Diego chapter had a speaker on Mangoes this week. He says he's getting 18 inches per year from his trees using: once a week watering in the summer (~7g for smaller trees), once a month liquid 3-3-3 fertilizer, some special spray in january to promote flower/fruit, pine or redwood bark mulch, and lots of love. However he described his soil as very sandy and lives on a slope.  Says that he gets growth at the same time as flowering and fruiting. Though he does remove all but 3 fruits from each tree. I think his name was Eric. He was most insistent on the mulch and indicated that he had played around with different conditions, so he might know it for a fact. But I think he's only been growing mangoes here for 3 years as well.  Anyway, I can add more details once I find my notes, or perhaps someone else attended.

Leo gave me a tour of his yard today. Lots of mangoes on the trees but it was too many to keep track of. And mostly seedlings to boot. Told him about this thread. Perhaps he'll show up and comment.

JF, thanks for the reply on seasonality. Do you have a working list of good early, mid and late mangoes for socal or san diego? I've been trying to piece together info off the web but my understanding is clearly off.

So, in your yard Glenn, LZ, Haden, Ataulfo, 76 and NDM are early and Irwin, Choc Anon, Alfonso, Thompson, Keitt and Mallika are mid?

I see boxes of the ataulfo version of these sometimes.
