I found this orange tree while putting gas in my truck it was growing against a chain link fence next to a vacant lot so I walked over and picked off a few of the fruit I will get pictures of the tree next time I put gas in, this tree was not intentionally planted it it's In a corporate complex next to a vacant lot here are some pictures of the fruit. I dont believe the leaves were trifoliate I'll check next time. I'm assuming just a malnourished feral Valencia or something.

i grafted my shiranui tree about 3 weeks ago i decided to use C35, i found a decent sized donor tree it was a nice trovita orange on C35, i grafted 3 buds onto the c35 below the trovita. i havent decided if i will allow the trovita orange to stay the top or chop it to force the shiranui to push.

ive had nill success with other rootstocks ive had better success with c35, than carizzo.

Yea I ordered mine on December 2015 so you should be getting yours soon, how are your grafting skills fylui??

just updating my sumo seedling, doing really well and putting on solid growth, It has grown continuously during this fall and winter months, and is currently flsuhing again i keep waiting for it to stop flushing to up-pot it but it just wont stop lol here are some updated pictures, dont mind the water spots on the leaves it rained yesterday and my roomate was sanding some cabinets and it got sawdust on my tree lol i sprayed it down after i took the pictures.

Here is a recent pic of my dekopon seedling living in sunny southern california its gotten plenty of sun its whole life, it needs to be repotted but i dont want to interrupt its last flush of the season. i will wait and repot it next month i believe. i cant add anything to the flowering or fruit setting info just that this tree is doing pretty well on its own roots and growing steady.

current status, had to move the tree to the back patio due to heat and light the leaves were burning and drying, it was flushing new growth and the new growth would be brown/black by the time i got home from work iwas about 100+ and sun for 8+ hours directly so i moved to my shaded patio which gets sun in the AM only i try and move it back to direct sun around 3pm so it gets sunset sun for about3 hours also.

Just got a new phone thought id take a few new pics and post from my new phone the pictures should be better quality. its growing well not tall but widening out and pushing many small branches within.

it seems this was a hybrid of a satsuma and a ponkan, grown in only one area and you are not likely to find a source for the tree. at first i was thinking Ugli tangelo which you can get budwood from the CCPP but i dont think these are the same variety from what i could research. doesnt seem like the temecula sweet tangerine is something you can find a tree of but maybe grow it from seed when you get the fruit, but an old article i found stated the orchard where these temecula sweet tangerines are grown was infected with tristeza so maybe growing from seed is not the best idea. a tough position to be in if you want the tree. i want the Ugli tangelo but cant source a tree in socal but i have ordered the budwood from CCPP but was unable to graft it onto anything all grafts did not take but i have continued my hunt for this tree in socal.

1 month later its flushing good, although the sun is bright and burns some of the new leaves at the very tip but its still doing good and growing steady now.

Just updating some pictures of the progress it is flushing pretty good this past month and this week it appears it will send out another 4-5 branches this will be a dense little tree when it fills in. Changing my watering habits and fertilizing habits has brought more growth in the past 3 months than in the first 9.

i concur with tom its probably a swallowtail catapillar from what your describe.

I use a pH probe from milwaukee that i calibrate from packeted ph solution,i calibrate it for the 4.0 solution then calibrate it to the 7.0 solution then the 4.0 again and split the difference this gives me about the right calibration that i want to check "acidic" i grow aquatic plants as a hobby and use that probe to check the pH of my aquarium water and so i have it on hand to check the ph of my feeding water for my citrus trees, when i check the ph using the probe vs the strips they are different the strips do indeed give a false reading when it comes to TDS but you can get your pH into about the right range simply by calling your local water authority and finding out what the ph of your tap water is then using the strips to check it and adjust your calculations accordingly. most my tap water i have tested is at 7.8-8.0 which my citrus do not like, distilled water is at about 7.0 but when i add in my nutrients it brings it down to about 6.7 when i test it with my probe calibrated between the 4.0 nd 7.0 solution.
