Update on my taste test this week. I had some ripe navel orange, valencia orange, and vainiglia sanguigno.

Here's how they compared for me, #1 is best, #4 least.
1. Vainiglia Sanguigno (VI-442)
2a. Navel orange
2b. Washington Sanguine blood orange (VI-521)
3. Var. Hamlin orange
4. Valencia orange/var. Valencia orange

It seems the Vainiglia Sanguigno has the same issue as Valentine pummelo. Sometimes people who tastes the Valentine say it has no acid and is insipid and other times it has a little tartness to make it tastes very good.

JSea I agree with your comments. To me, the Vainiglia Sanguigno on my old tree (graft is over 15 + yrs old now) is very good tasting, sweet with very little/mild acidic taste. This may be a good variety for people who do not like acidic citrus fruits. I plan to graft some scionwood on a few of my other trees before I remove this tree since I like the fruit now. I prefer to eat this fruit out of hand than the New Zealand lemon.

I also grow the Washington Sanguine blood orange (VI-521), and the Vainiglia Sanguigno (VI-442) tastes better.

Yup, that's funny, I was going to say that was one positive for growing the Key lime.

I have both key lime and bearss and I don't detect much difference. There is a Giant Key lime that can be ordered from CCPP but it says it has Wood Pocket disease.

Pau, CA is strict on citrus movement so its best to just buy the scionwood to graft citrus to your tree. Here's the UC Riverside budwood program you can order different varieties of citrus (over 100 varieties).

Galka, thanks for the info on source for your trees.

Janet, that is a large fruit and seedless so that's a winner. I hope my grafted seedless guava from Trianhthy and Crystal seedless from Xshen grows faster so I can check out the fruits. Both of their fruits are large. The shape of your fruit looks similar to Trianhthy's true seedless guava.

Lovetoplant, my base tree on the Hyakume was the Giant Fuyu. I remember it had large rounder shaped fruits (compared to Fuyu) like yours. It would get plenty of large fruits, but I didn't think it had a lot of taste to me, and the normal Fuyu seemed to taste better so I ended up top working all the branches, so I don't have any Giant Fuyu fruit to try.

I did find some seeds in my fruits I ate. Since this tree with the VS has two other grafted branches of very good navel oranges, maybe the seedling will be different.

How large is your seedling tree now? If I get fruit on mine, I will let you know, maybe we can exchange cuttings later on.

Joe, yes the leaves do look similar. When you get first fruits, please share a photo.

Galka, where did you find the Taiwanese white and the Peruvian white?

Does anyone have an Egyptian guava? Does the white flesh or yellow flesh taste better?

Ok, Robert and Jack, now I did my final taste test of the Supersweet and Younghan's Gold fruits.

Robert, yes you were correct, the fruits may not be as good on the Supersweet since it is the first year with fruits. But now after eating 3-5 fruits, the taste started to improve the more I waited for it to turn slightly yellow skin. Also, the last 2 fruits fell off when I touched it slightly, so it was light yellow skin and ready to fall off the tree.

I will post some final photos of both the Supersweet and Younghan's Gold later below and give my impression on their taste.

Jack, the white sapotes you gave me (malibu #1,#3, walton, Clytia, C.Tera #6,#7) are doing well. Both Malibu #1 and #3 seems to be the slowest growing for me. The other three are growing well, they are all grafted on my McDill seedling tree and the yellow sapote seedling tree (from CSUF). I already got a small fruit from Walton this year, and it tasted good. I hope to get fruits from Clytia and C. Tera #6 & #7 next year. The Clytia is a fast grower, has many flowers now. These grafts were also on my large seedling tree in my son's yard and doing even better but i had to remove that tree and it did not make the transplant in my yard this year (lost 34 varieties).
