Took cuttings, here's some photos:

60
I was asked about leaving these photos of the Sylvia guava in the photos for future reference for those members that have purchased the cuttings and received some seeds.

So, I will allow anyone who is growing the Betty/Syliva guava shown here to use my photos I took and posted here.

I'll try to update some photos when I go back there from time to time to show how the fruits are doing on the tree.

You may see some of my ealrier photos of the guava fruits that says "Betty" and the later photos will all say "Sylvia"

Let me update this post with some additional photos here and how some seeds are doing now.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Cocktail Grapefruit
« on: April 12, 2024, 03:58:04 AM »
I try to grow most of my pomelo and rare citrus. But I just put them in a community pot (all same varieties) and let them grow. After 6 months - 1 year, I pick the strongest ones and put them each in their own pot. Then when the seedling grows large enough to graft, I use them for my named varieties. If I see the Cocktail seedlings I will let you know. I also have this current batch of seeds so I can watch the seeds grow and let you know.

I'm adding one more variety on my list, and grafting to my tree.

Brief info on the new addition Mimi's loquat.  This is a fruit seed that was brought back from Spain in 2002 or 2003 by his mom when she went there for a vacation. His mom planted her seeds about 4-7 years ago in a pot. The plant grew to over 6 feet tall. It still has not fruited yet so I'm volunteering to help speed up the fruiting process time by grafting the scions to my in ground large loquat trees (3 different ones). We hope to see fruits in the next few years.

He lives in Philadelphia, so they bring in the loquat every time it gets to cold outside.

There is nothing wrong with the large green (white or pink inside) guavas. Many people only like the crunchy ones like Pearl, Crystal, Taiwan Seedless, Ruby Seedless, and others. they are not as sweet to me, so I like the softer variety more. Also, the softer guava varieties will have more tropical guava fragrance which is nice but can be strong if you keep the fruit on the counter to long.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Best loquat varieties
« on: April 11, 2024, 02:42:50 PM »
ok, now you got me interested. I better get that one from Mark Lee.

I have the China Doll and the first-year fruit was not impressive to me, just average white flesh fruit. The China White (from same originator, Jim Nietzel) is much sweeter and highly productive. It is one of my top 5 best tasting loquat.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Lilikoi - Which Ones Do You Grow
« on: April 11, 2024, 02:37:09 PM »
So are you saying the big yellow fruit I show above is a lillikoi?
I don't think my photo of the yellow fruit is a Jamaican lilikoi, I have that plant growing in a pot.

Pau,

No, this is a new one to me as well. The person who has this passion fruit vine said he was gifted the plant cutting from a good friend and did not know the name of it. Yes, you can eat out of hand and it is very good to me, sweet and just a little tart.

I have at least 8 different passion fruit vines (many still in pots) but I did not get fruits on my new vines yet.

You definitely want it if you like any of the purple passion fruits, it is better.

I did just get a rare Taiwanese "Starry Night" cutting but I'm not sure how good it is. It is suppoe to be the best of the purple fruit variety from the person who gave me the cutting. Also got a fruit but it is not ripe yet.

For those people who do not meet my requirements mentioned above, please don't post your comments here. Make your own post and say what you want there.

This is just a question for some of you members that might be interested in buying one (1) cutting of the Big Yellow Passion Fruit vine. I showed this photo of the one fruit I got to taste which I thought was better than any of the purple type fruits like Purple Posum, Fredericks, and a few others I tried from Brad and others vine.

First round of sales are all done, but after cutting all the vines I collected, I see that there are move cuttings available so if you are interested, see the new updated post from today.

72
That's what I thought, thank you for this feedback. Now, I don't need to go buy one to find out it was crunchy.

73
It doesn't look like a soft flesh, looks like the typical hard crunchy one to me. i didn't know that Esty seller was Mimosa, good to know. I went to that nursery, and no one was there so I gave up on trying to check it out in person.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Shine Muscat

Yours look nice. I guess I'm cheating since the ones I have were already growing or bare root when I got them. I will post the photos momentarily, just took photos yesterday.

Speaking of new guavas or ones that tastes good, I may have found another person with a larger tree (7-8 ft) that tells me their guava fruits are good. The person has two trees about the same size and age (7-10 yrs old) which has good fruits.

When I went over to the house to graft more of my loquat varieties in trade for cuttings of their fruit trees, I just noticed today why one guava tree looks to have different leaves then the other normal green leaf tree. It appears to be a variegated guava tree (oh boy!) and I missed it all these times I went over to the house.
