Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Jaboticaba as a houseplant?
« on: December 28, 2020, 11:45:46 AM »
Thanks for all the valuable advice. I have a south-facing window in which I am already growing my passionfruit vine. I have a humidifier going up there, so humidity should be good.

Can I keep one in a container? Also, how reputable is the Amazon/Ebay/Etsy seller Ninewaters?

I heard that a guy in Los Gatos (another town in 9b) pulled off green sapote, as well as savannah cherry and pitangatuba.

Hi there!

Just was wondering if I can grow cherimoya trees and/or other Annonas in containers, for reason of lack of much space?

Sounds interesting! Will try to stop by those places if I can. Thank you a ton for the recommendation, and will try to visit the Hilo Farmer's Market next time I find myself on the Big Island.

Hi there!

Just a bit of friendly advice:
Here in 9b, it's best to grow Annonas that can take more cold, as it can get down to 29ºF where I live. These are cherimoyas and atemoyas, namely. It probably isn't a great idea to try other Annonas here, unless of course you have a greenhouse or sufficient light and space indoors. I agree though, Annonas are awesome.

Hi everyone!

In a few months' time, I will likely be taking a vacation to Maui to celebrate the end of the pandemic and the (not-)Great Quarantine. Do any locals/people with experience with this location know where I can find exotic fruit on the west side of the island (e.g. Ka'anapali, Lahaina)?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Annonas in 9b

Hi TFF!

I have been doing some research and have noticed that growing cherimoya and atemoya in my climate (Zone 9b) should be possible. Could I get a couple professional opinions, and are there any other Annonas that I can grow here? Thank you!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Reputability

Hi everyone-

I was just wondering about the reputability of sites like seedman.com (NOT to be confused with seedsman.com) and tradewindsfruit.com. Has anyone bought from either of these sites?

Thank you!

Ok. Operation Put A Mango In Every Nook And Cranny Of My House, commenced.

What if I don’t have a mature tree? Should I still graft two seedlings?

Ok, then should I plant multiple trees?

Ok, I'll start my mango from seed experiment. Just a question, how long does it take a mango to go from seed to fruit?

Would it be possible to grow one as a houseplant of sorts?

As a self-proclaimed mango addict, I would like to know if I can grow mangoes where I am? (Zone 9b)

1. Mango. The most delicious thing that grows on a plant.
2. Passionfruit. If only someone would invent a seedless variety. ;D
3. Pineapple. Best when grilled on a kebab skewer.
4. Orange. Best when right off the tree.
5. Raspberry. Best with chocolate.

Honorable mentions: Coconut, Dragonfruit, Nectarine, Strawberry
