I want to show y'all this, here is 1 Psidium schenckianum that was planted in a 3” wide 8” deep treepot, they clearly grow much better in a deeper pot. Sometimes I learn the hard way on growing. I think now that in their native biome if their taproot gets dry they will go into shutdown mode like they are going into the dry period of the year. Good drainage but with consistent moisture at the tap root and good light is key. Also I highly doubt these Caatinga species will handle much more than maybe a light frost, luckily they are small enough to move around or protect.

What I'm really looking for is psidium pulcherrimum. Really regretting not buying it when I had the option to import some seeds.
The fine and small leaf psidiums and eguenias are on another level in terms of ornamentals.

Here is the one P. pulcherrimum I have from about 7 seeds. Still a possibility other seeds might germinate because some of them are very sporadic. This seedling is starting to get  thinner leaves that they are known for. These Caatinga species look so similar at first.

I just found this thread and good to see Psidium getting some respect. Has one here have any of the more difficult Psidium species to germinate from the Cerrado that has been available this year, such as Red Heron, Cerrado Laranja and pohlianum? I have a few seeds of each kept in moist sand with none sprouted yet.  I’m thinking these may take as much time or more as some Annona species of the region. I’ve been cycling every few weeks going variable 70F night to 85F day to constant 77F to hopefully trigger them to break dormancy.

79
I would cover the shoots more with soil mix especially the one in the last picture just leaving a little green above soil line. I do find it more difficult to plant seeds that are well germinated vs ones that just started. Sometimes the root can be going in other directions than away from the top sprout, in that situation I bury it all but in favor of the root, the seedling will figure the rest out on it’s own. Another thing is your media looks too dry, I recommend watering completely then cover the pots in clear plastic bags or plastic wrap to keep humidity consistently high for a couple weeks.

So I am down to just the Psidium guineense available. 16 of the Cerrado, 8 Caatinga and 8 of the Morango Amazonia. Here is a special offer of 8 Cerrado, 4 Caatinga and 4 Morango for only $24. This will fit exactly, with the plants kept in the tray cells, in a Medium size flat rate box for $14 if they need to be shipped to the West Coast. For East Coast I will use a similar size box to be charged by weight which should be around $7 to $9. Very recently there were larger seedlings of unknown variety go for $20plus a piece on eBay. These seedlings will be that size in 6 months.

Here are the 16 seedlings in the box before wrapping and cardboard protection.

Here are the Psidium australe var australe that I have available as of now. I’m going to reduce the price of these to $5 each due to them being a little smaller than the others I sold and showing signs of micronutrient deficiency on the the older leaves, new leaves are fine and I’m confident that these will grow out of it very quickly once they are planted in deeper pots with more volume for the roots.

So I still have plenty of guineense to spread around to others. Monday they are calling a low of 36F here so I need to move plants inside this weekend. For this weekend you can get 10 P. guineense seedlings for $20. Choose how many of each of the 3 vars that you want me to send. I will pack them semi bareroot with peat moss soil mix the roots are holding, wrapped in a damp paper towel and then wrapped with cling wrap. These will easily fit in a medium flat rate box to ship to the West coast for $14. For East Coast I ship with usps priority cubic which will be around $7.

I received my plants today, and I just want to say that any and all growers out there should consider buying some of these seedlings. David is a great grower, a real asset to the Forum and rare fruit growing community. Every plant looked absolutely perfect, and all were packed securely. If you have the space for a few more plants in your collection, you won't be sorry you ordered from him.

Thanks William for the kind words. Glad you are enjoying the plants I sent you.

84
Dang, I didn't know about those sorocabense! Looks like I have more to get haha

I lost track on which Psidium Sp I sent to you before, I thought I already sent you sorocabense.

85
Don't sleep on these deals! They will be gone before long.
Quality plants!
Thanks Ryan. Had to add this picture. 😆 Don’t be like Campoman respect the Psidium.

Here are some more pictures. The grower in Brazil says the P. sorocabense fruit taste really good, combination of strawberries with regular guajava. This species is very similar to guajava but it’s found in the semi deciduous forests transition to Cerrado in São Paulo state. It also has thinner leaves and more compact growth form. The Myrcia is from Marcos in Argentina, it’s reported to have small but very sweet fruits. It should have good frost tolerance given where it was collected from.

I have available Psidium guineense Brazilian Guava small seedlings. The seeds were obtained from Rodolfo in Brazil which I’m pretty sure most of his fruiting plants are from Helton. The 3 vars are Morango aka Strawberry, Cerrado Araca de Cacho which is because it fruits in bunches like a cluster very prolific and the last one is from the Caatinga that has a Big Yellow Fruit. Pricing for seedlings is $3 each or 4 or more at $2 each.
Campomanesia guazumifolia small seedling in a 3”W 8” depth tree pot $8
Geonoma pauciflora small seedlings $8, this is a dwarf palm from low elevations in Bahia Brazil with fruits reported to taste like Açaí.
Eugenia punicifolia var Caatinga Round tip leaves semi bare-root $8 each or 2 for $12
Peanut Butter fruit sm seedling in tree pot $5
Add 5% for PayPal or 0% if sent using Friends and Family or cash pickup. I will get these plants to you guaranteed. Shipping starts around $7 by weight for East Coast and up to $14 to West Coast for medium flat rate box, I use Pirate Ship to get a reduced rate. Any ? please let me know and have a great day.

Yes, correct. But maybe if the figs are not caprified it may not have the larger eye. I did see some fruits with closed eyes that were ripe, like the first photos above. I picked maybe 6 fruits and they all looked similar to the one I show in that photo with normal eye.

I did test the seeds on the ones that exploded, and they were caprified.

That makes sense. We don’t have the fig wasp here which is a good thing with the wet climate that we have this time of year. Does the caprified fruits have better flavor?

I would be very surprised if that variety of fig will do well here in humid southeast USA with its big open eye and the way it doesn’t hang like some others. Even my Brown Turkey has issues here some years but that’s why you are doing a trial and looking forward to the grower’s experience with it.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: WTB rooted mexican cream guava
« on: September 03, 2023, 02:08:32 PM »
Yeah I’m not certain but I think it’s one of the varieties that doesn’t come true with seeds. The sellers probably bought seeds labeled Mexican Cream but who knows what genetics, could have been cross pollinated with another variety. Finding a grafted or air layered plant from a fruiting true Mexican Cream is the way to go.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: WTB: Plinia SP Burgundy
« on: September 02, 2023, 01:22:56 PM »

Here is the guy that I’m pretty confident that supplies seeds to the USA of that particular Plinia variety.I think he has posted seeds for sale here on TFF before. As to finding a plant I would message Bellamy Trees or Anderson Tropicals. John Morton and Jason Dev of Fruitsy Farms  are some others that might be growing it too, both of them sell on eBay too.

That makes sense it comes from the taiwan tiger of plinia
While more giant red crystal seed has been imported, that’s only from 3 years max so no fruiting specimens in the US yet. So more popular because it was what was sold more.

Burgundy? Who made that one?

Pretty sure it is a variety name from a big propagator of Plinia in Taiwan. I just can’t remember his name though but he also has Plinia Red Pouch and Red Crystal that is more popular here in the USA.

More well known would have been better for me to say of the other varieties due to them being imported in higher quantities.
